We plan to ride into Eagle Pass, stay there overnight, and visit Mexico while we are there. ;)
Is it very dificult to find a ride (taxi, etc) from an Eagle Pass motel, into Mexico and back to the motel. :o
How is this done exactly.

Thanks for the help
If the weather is nice and you don't plan to buy more than you can carry, you might just need the ride to the bridge on the Texas side and walk over. The Mercado is not far from the bridge.
I don't think you would have a problem finding a taxi, either way.
Good luck. :)

Please, What is the Mercado
Wilson
The Mercado is like a building with no walls and alot of venders. You can shop there for blankets, eats, souvenirs, etc. They sell the stuff for a higher price but, cheap.
If you want to buy cheaper then you have to walk further in.
Yellow Wing Wil,
How was your ride to Eagle Pass? Mexico?

Hello Mena, ;)
We leave on March 28th at 7AM, should stay in Aransas Pass the first night, and should be in Eagle Pass on Tuesday or Wednesday night (30th or 31st of March),and will cross into Mexico at that time. :P
We have not decided where to stay in Eagle Pass. Any suggestions on a "clean, not to Pricey" motel you may know about. We like to keep cost down. We are going to spend that next fourteen days on the road.
Thanks for keeping track of my quest for our "South Texas Loop". :)

:P :D ;) :)
We stayed at La Quinta when we went down to visit. We rented the room for the week cause it was less expensive. Although I have heard to check the amount you are charged and the amount they give you.
Sometimes when you make reservations ahead of time some places will give you discounts if not, ask them.
Good luck on your adventure. We recently got back from our trip to Florida.
Oh, if you are taking kids with you invest in a portable DVD player it was a life saver for us.

Like they said, el mercado in English is a market square of arts and crafts. tourist stuff. Its better to go on a weekday then on weekend. You can bargain better since there are more tourist on weekends. You can park before the customs station there is free parking behind the taxi stand as you come up hill to the old bridge on the left side of the street. From there you can walk across the bridge and you will come to the plaza, from the plaza its about two blocks the mercado from there. There are taxis on both sides by the border by the old bridge. I am not sure if there is a bus that cross the bridge still to take people across it. It takes people from mexico to the loca mall and HEB grocery store. You can drive you vehicle too across the border its two dollars each way for approximately four dollars total. You can park by the plaza and just walk two streets to the mercado. The only thing bad in driving across the border will be coming back you for sure will be pulled over for a second inspection being from out of town and out of state.
If you have bags leave them in the hotel room. There is also the Holly Inn motel which is cheaper than Quality Inn, and there are other cheaper places around town.

The Dream motel MIGHT be cheaper cause it is not on the main st. I have never stayed there, so I don't know how it is.

One of the non-chain motels mentioned above sounds perfect for our trip to EP. I'd love some feedback on how nice, clean and cheap they are.

The Holly Motel just quoted me $54.24 per night. That seems a bit high. I am going to try some of the others also.
If you want to go camping go to the Dream Motel. J/k I don't know what the rooms look like but, they might be cheaper.

They just remoled the Dream Motel. The rooms are alright for what you pay for.
It is nice to hear they remodeled.

The Dream Motel is $55 a night. I thouht I was gonna get away with around $30- $35 a night but I guess not.
The only thing cheap in Eagle Pass is rent and tamales. Everything else is overpriced..go figure. :)

The Hillcrest motel usually comes out on the news, its mostly used to hold illegal aliens. Rented by the coyotes. I am not sure of Hesles motel is still active, its the hotel down town, from main st you turn left at the old historical courthouse, just pass the library. Also, Mr Bs truck stop has some rooms for rent. I also saw a small motel on the way to the Kickapoo casino, just off El Indio Rd, on Rosita VAlley rd on the left side, its not much but if you need just a bed to sleep. You have to be careful at other hotels/motels because vehicles have been stolen or broken into them while you sleep at night. There is a cheap motel in Del Rio, as y turn left after the overpass, you go about half mile on the right, I remember seeing a sign for 20 dollars. If you are heading to Del Rio these week, a friend told me that Emilio will be performing at Denim and Dimonds club. There will be a Spring Break party at the Corona CLub in Acuna, Del Castillo, Joe King Corrasco and other groups that play in Austin will be performing.
Thx for all the info. Jorge.
Yellow Wing Wil,
It might be a little to late to ask but, how did your trip turn out? Did you ever find a cheap place to stay?
