I am not a teacher, but can answer some of your questions. Yes, teachers are on the bottom salary scale. And sometimes they have to buy their own school supplies for their students with their own money. You say, teachers don't give a shit and don't care about your grades. Since when does a teacher suppose to care for your feelings or your difficulites or problems in your life. If you want to be care for, you have your family, your mother/father/girlfriend/boyfriend cry on. As for your grades did i miss something here...you get what you earn. Since when does the teacher suppose to give you a better grade cause you think you are cool . And you are so right about the teachers having to baby sit students like you that think they know it all. And they have to put up with all of your shit. The teachers do everything to teach you what you have to learn, its up to each student to learn it.
And yes, there are jobs where you can make more money with out an education. Look around and choose a job and go for it. Working on the oil fields pay very well.
It's not against the law to have a second or third job, everybody got to pay bills and put food on the table.
Who is paying the bills and feeding you...your ride is free. Soon you have to do it on your own. So until you see what it take to live on this world you have nothing to complain. As for Math and Science belive me study and study hard if you want to make money. This are the best two subject you have to be good at. And if you decide to go to college, do your home work and fine major that pays more and go for it. Medical fields and there are alot of area and different areas of engineering. So their goes your Science and Math.....don't try to be a mancho man, using your profound lanuage. You are not inpressing anybody, but making an ass of ourself....
You also make a statement that people graduate from college with no skills. You need a little education on this area. Teachers and other area majors have to take a big State Board Exam. And if you do not pass it even if you graduated from college you can not work as a teacher. Or what ever major you went for. Not only that if you wish to teach Science or Math or what ever class you wish to teach, teachers have to take a State Board exam on each one.
Talking about college...you are on your own, they don't give a shit ass about you or your problems. You pay your tution and if you decided not to go to class no problem and if you decided not to do your homework, no problem if you flunk out no problem they kick you ass out and laugh at you all the way to the bank. You have to have a GPA no lower then a 2.00. if you don't, no problem you are out. If you go under financial aid...financial aid do not pay for repeat classes you have to pay it yourself. No problem because you will be making more then the teachers pay by then correct.

Rockstar FIRST of all teachers don't teach for money. They teach because that is what they want or love to do.
You said your chemistry teacher works part time at Walmart? You know what he is teaching you while he is working, DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO LIVE THEY WAY YOU WANT. I'll bet you didn't see that picture because you were too quick to turn the page.
You say teachers don't care...I have endless reasons to say you are dead wrong on this one and I am not a teacher.

I agree with ignoring rockstar also because unless he is mailto:maddox@xmission.com (maddox@xmission.com) then he didn't write this article/essay in the first place. You can find the article @ http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=teachers.
Maybe he is maddox@xmission.com, but I kind of doubt it.
It's too easy to bust someone plagiarizing on the internet.

As a teacher, I thank you all for the wonderful and soundly written defense of our career of choice. And ignoring this post is a good idea, though I wanted to go further on the money issue brought up by someone else (mena I think).
If a person wants to get rich, they will not go into teaching. Teaching is for those that love the idea of bringing new knowledge and better things to those that are ready and willing to learn. There is no riches more valuable than the look on a student's face when a concept is learned or a difficult lesson is overcome and learning takes place.
I care about each and every one of "my kids". They are the children of my heart.

My hats off to ALL TEACHERS.
I do not have a college education. However, I have a great job that pays VERY, VERY well. I have this great job because of my Eagle Pass teachers, who thought me how to read, write, add subtract etc..... everything I learned in school may not be used in my current job. However, at least I have enough knowledge of science, history etc... That I can have a decent conversation with someone about the subject.
Even though I have never met VW I know she is a PHENOMENAL example of a loving caring teacher.

aww you guys are the sweetest people. all teary eyed now and not making that up either. Have one of "my kids" taken to the hospital in a nearby city today with kidney failure and her sister has been there since either Saturday or Sunday with fevers of 103 to 104 since Friday. It has been a hard day and such loving kindness in your words really helped. Thank you.
