Go Bobcats! As a 2002 grad of SWT(I'll never get used to saying Texas State) I'd like to say that I am extremely proud of the Bobcats. It's been over 20 years since the Cats have had any type of success. For any SWT alumni on here, go to San Marcos this Saturday, 2 days after Thanksgiving, and support the Cats as they play Georgia Southern in the first round of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs at 2:30 in San Marcos. EAT EM CATS!!!

Hey, congrats on your team's success. Although I'm a UT alum, it's great to see that SWT is once again having success in football. I still remember the SWT glory days when Jim Wacker was the coach in the early 80's , when you all were winning national titles. It appears those days have returned.
Barrick Nealy is one Hell of a QB. He will definately play in the NFL.

Yeah it was a hell of a game. Sam Houston really put up a fight. They came back from a ten point deficit to take us into overtime. When the game was over you could have sworn we had won a national title. Everybody in the stands rushed onto the field and started hugging whoever they could find. It's been 23 years since the Bobcats have been in the playoffs and the first time since they got moved to the division they're in right now which is about the same amount of time. I agree, Nealy is a hell of a QB. He's been Southland Player of the Week pretty much every week since the start of the season. He took a pretty hard hit in the fourth quarter this past game when the play was over and he got knocked back about ten yards by one of the San Houston defensive backs. He got up and on the next play broke a 48 yard run. For anybody that's interested, the game this Saturday is going to be nationally televised on ESPN2.

And on a side note, our volleyball team also won the Southland Conference title this weekend and both our womens and men basketball team are doing extremely well this season. We might not be a big name school that's known for it's athletic and academic programs such as UT but we're getting there, little by little.

Congrats to all the Bobcat athletics and to the Band.
One day the Bobcat program will make it big time. The student population is already 27,000 and it's bigger than many major football schools like Arkansas, Nebraska, Kansas State, Baylor, and many, many more. With the continued growth of the school and the continued success of the sports, you all will eventually make the move from Division I-AA to Division I-A and play with the big boys. Heck, maybe you all will even replace Baylor and join the Big 12, but that's way down the road.

Don't forget that many former Eagle Pass football players have played for the Bobcats. Coach George Mancha was a punter for them in the late 70's/early 80's and the current EP city manager, Chuy Olivares, was a WR for the Bobcats during that same period. I believe they may have been lucky enough to play with Jim Wacker, who is a legend at SWT.

Yea it was a good game. A lot of us in the stands were beginning to lose hope right before halftime but what a show the bobcats put up in the in last quarter and a half. My lips were so tired by the end of the game from playing the fight song so much that I could barely play the alma mater but oh well I don't mind our team deserved it. Next up, Cal Poly. If we win this game, we'll more than likely play the top seed in the divison, New Hampshire (assuming they dominate their game against Northern Iowa like they did this past Sat. against Colgate). But yeah, the game is the same time same place as last week. THREE MORE WINS FOR A NATIONAL TITLE!!! :D

I'm am going to try my hardest to go to the Bobcat game this weekend. They are predicting a sell out crowd this weekend. I even heard they may have to put temporary seating in the end zone. As a Bobcat Alumni, I have never been more proud of my school than I am now. And there are many other alums coming out now to support their school. EAT EM UP CATS!!!

Texas State has sold out of general admission tickets to Saturday's playoff game.

Texas State Athletic Department
Thursday, December 1, 2005

Texas State has completely sold out of general admission tickets and only a limited number of reserved seats still remain for the Bobcats' NCAA Division I-AA quarterfinal playoff game against Cal Poly Saturday.

Reserved seats are $12 and available through the athletic ticket office located in Strahan Administrative Annex or by calling (512) 245-2272 or (877) 798-CATS. At 2 p.m. Thursday, only 1,900 tickets remained for the game.

Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 3 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast live by ESPN2.

This should be one helluva game. The school is really going all out and supporting the team. Even the newspapers in Austin have articles about us right beside their Longhorn articles :D Go Cats!!!

14-7 CATS WIN! Great game Bobcats. Can't wait for the next game, which will be yet another home game. That's gonna be 10 home games on the years. That's gotta be a record. Just 2 more wins for the championship. It seems Wacker magic is back! Eat Em up Cats!

Man I don't think the stadium has had that many people in there in while. From what I heard, the game was completely sold out (both general and reserve sections) with an attendance of over 10,000. It was a sea of maroon all around. The Boko dance was hilarious during halftime. I don't know if they showed it on TV but right after we finished playing Boko ran up to the super cat on the 50 and did the whole dance from Napoleon Dynamite. It was so hilarious. The guy in the costume had it down to a T. Next game is going to be here this coming Friday/Saturday (nobody knows the exact date) against Northern Iowa. A win against them means a trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee for a bid at the national championship.

So how do you like that...? UT can come home national champions with a second consecutive Rose Bowl win and 30 miles south of Austin, San Marcos can be home to another championship team. Think about it, Texas has the opportunity to house two championship college football teams, it is home to the reigning NBA champion Spurs and the NL champion Astros. Now if the Cowboys could just make a deep run into the playoffs, we'll really have it all :D

As an update, the game will be this Friday night at 7 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium/Jim Wacker field. Tickets went on sale here on campus today at noon so if last week was any indication of what is to come, they should be all sold out by tomorrow afternoon. Its also going to be televised again on ESPN2. :)

Man, I can't believe Bailiff chose to take a knee in the 4th. He had 1:27 left on the clock, and they had all 3 timeouts. Yet, this guy showed absolutely no confidence in his offense. Bailff essentially cost his team the game. That's one of the worst coaching moves I've ever seen. Period.

The game was ours except in my opinion (I don't know if any of you guys who saw the game feel the same way) the refs really screwed us over with a handful of B.S. calls. Ain't no way we "roughed the kicker" ain't no way we were offsides on the kickoff. But oh well. I personally don't have a lot to look forward to next season. All the guys that got us this far are seniors. :(

I know this will probably be of absolutely no interest to some but I thought this was very interesting considering I attend school here at the moment...I got this article off my my school's website.

Texas State named among America's Best Value Colleges

Posted by: Jayme Blaschke
Date: 2006-03-28

Texas State University-San Marcos has been named by the Princeton Review as one of America's Best Value Colleges for 2007.

The list ranks the top 150 public and private institutions nation-wide, placing Texas State in elite company. Texas State joins just three other Texas universities on the list: Rice University in Houston, Texas A&M University in College Station and the University of Texas in Austin.

The Princeton Review created its annual guidebook, America's Best Value Colleges, in 2004 to help families derive the most value out of their higher education dollar. Based on data The Princeton Review obtained from administrators at 646 colleges and surveys it conducted of students attending them, the new 2007 edition recommends 150 colleges offering excellent academics, generous financial aid packages and relatively low costs. It has three-page profiles on the colleges, advice on getting into the schools and getting financial aid from them, and ranking lists naming the book's "Top 10 Best Value Public Colleges" (New College of Florida in Sarasota is no. 1) and "Top 10 Best Value Private Colleges" (Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah) is no. 1). Of Texas State, the guide says in part:

The only university in the state of Texas that can claim a president of the United States as an alumnus is Texas State University-San Marcos. We wonder if President Lyndon Johnson would still recognize his alma mater, though. What was once Southwest Texas State Teachers College has grown rather dramatically into a vast multipurpose university.

"We use over 30 factors to rate the colleges in four categories: Academics, Tuition GPA (sticker price minus average amount students receive in gift aid scholarships and grants), Financial Aid (how well colleges meet students' financial need), and Student Borrowing," said Robert Franek, VP-Publishing, The Princeton Review. "The 150 schools that met our criteria for this edition include 103 public and 47 private colleges in 40 states. They range from large state universities to small, liberal arts colleges, and include little-known gems, specialty schools, and some colleges that are tuition-free."

America's Best Value Colleges also includes general advice on applying to colleges, getting in to them, and finding funding for them. Its first 60 pages discuss: factors to consider when choosing a college; "Paying for College 101" (a crash course on applying for financial aid), and "What Colleges Want" (an insider look at how admission officers evaluate applicants). The book is one of over 200 books developed by The Princeton Review and published by Random House. The line also includes Paying for College Without Going Broke, Best 361 Colleges and several additional college guides, plus guides to college admission and placement exams, grad schools and grad school admission tests, and books on careers

How's that for small school people tend to overlook because our name isn't UT:p Seriously though, this school has come a long way in the last hundred years. It went from being a small teachers school in the early 1900's to being the alma mater of the late great Lyndon Bains Johnson (the only public school in the nation with the bragging rights to have a former president attend) to being the school of choice of well over 27,000 students. Makes me proud to have decided to come here. It may not have as much tradition or fame as most others but I like this school and one day it'll be as widely-known as all the other big name schools in the state or better yet, the nation.
