The Tower is closed right now, and will open back in Summer of 2006. Here's an article concerning the Tower's future plans:

Tower of the Americas to Close for Renovations
LAST UPDATE: 5/29/2005 7:22:05 AM

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The tower that has dominated San Antonio's skyline since 1968 will close on Tuesday for renovations. The Tower of the Americas is scheduled to reopen next summer.

Following an estimated $11 million in renovations, Landry's Restaurants plans to reopen the restaurant at the top of the tower as Eyes Over Texas at the Tower of the Americas. The upscale restaurant will serve regional and continental dishes.

Landry's Restaurants was awarded a 15-year contract to operate the facility over longtime operator Tower Foods of San Antonio in part because it guaranteed $14.7 million in minimum payments to the city over the deal's lifetime.

Landry's plans to expand the tower's base to include casual dining for the first time at ground level and a multisensory theater and gift shop.

A consultant hired to evaluate the tower's needs told the City Council that its restaurant sales were below the national average and it lacked the offerings of comparable city attractions such as Reunion Tower in Dallas and the Seattle Space Needle.

The aging structure offering panoramic views of the city also needs structural improvements.

"In any facility that has a long history, at some point over its life you're going to have to refreshen the atmosphere for the present time," San Antonio City Councilman Roger O. Flores said.

Was it really necessary to post a poll and question that ask the same thing as two different threads? Wouldn't it have been easier to combine as one? But don't mind me I probably don't know what I'm talking about right? :p
