I know for a fact that Maverick County. Which is Eagle Pass will soon be getting an IHOP you know an international house of pancakes restaurant. Well the reason I found out is because a local businessman from Del Rio just got permission to build four new IHOP's in Texas in four Different Counties one of which is Maverick County in Eagle Pass. Construction of a new IHOP will being in July in Del Rio where they will receive the first of the four Restaurants in South Texas. No word yet on when the IHOP for Eagle Pass will start. I will keep you all posted. ;)
P.S the owner that is building the IHOP's in South Texas is also building 2 new Subways in Del Rio.
That would be fantastic. Please keeps us inform. Out of towners would appreciate any new info about new businesses coming to town. Thanks for the info.

NO. I don't like to eat Cat Fish I like to buy Aquarium type of fish. You know like the ones Wal-Mart has in there Pet Dept. Yet I wanted to know if EP has a local Fish store other then the fish from Wal-Mart.
I don't like to eat fish.
I think people in big cities do talk about new restaurants and stores that are opening especially if it is a new type of restaurant or store.
For instance I hear Del Rio has three McDonald’s I bet the people in town didn't care to talk about the new McDonald’s while they where building it. Yet now the talk is that they are building a New IHOP. ;)
I think most people talk about what new businesses are coming to town. I know I do.

There has been a lot of Rumors being spread around the Del Rio and Eagle Pass area. So far I have heard the same about Ross and also the rumor is in Del Rio as well. I know that in Del Rio they are building a New JCPenny in the mall. As well as the new Shopping Center now they will have 2 Radio Shacks and another EB Games.

Good Luck on trying to get an Old Navy store anytime soon.
Stores like Old Navy don't like to take a chance when it comes to opening stores. First your city must meet some criteria that they have such, as like is the city's population over a certain number. Where is the location of an available space for an Old Navy Store? Stuff like that.
Word has it in Del Rio they where turned down by Old Navy because they say there is no profit to be made even thou almost everyone in Del Rio has old navy clothing. Word has it that they are building a Ross or a Marshall's in Del Rio.

Are you kidding me? Krispy Kreme is da chit lol. As for the IHOP rumors, I've been hearing about that for the past 3 or so years. If it IS coming, it sure is taking its sweet time.
As for business here in EP, I sure wish we had a lot more franchises or commercial chain stores, instead of these locally owned stores we have. Not saying're they're bad stores, but I think its important to have a good commercial image. For example, take a look at that new video games store in the mall... I mean, c'mon, its an obvious GameStop/EBGames rip-off, just bring in the dang store itself.

I don't know about you, Elek Trik,
but have you ever tried Chipley Donuts? IMHO, They have the best donuts, better than the overrated Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid you can only find Chipley Donuts franchises in the Houston area. But if you happen to be in Houston, you must try the glazed donuts at a Chipley's Donuts. Has anybody else tried them?
Ok, I'm getting hungry now. Bye.

Elek_trik,
As for IHOP coming it is. You can get some more info if you go vist IHOP's web site and look around and the info is their about the future IHOP restuarant EP will soon have. Del Rio, Uvalde, and Eagle Pass will be getting the Ihop resturants. Yet Del Rio will be the first to get the IHOP why? Because the person who got permission to build the Restuarants is from Del Rio. Infact Del Rio's IHOP will be reading on Dec, 15 so construction of the place will start in August.
Krispy Kreme donuts are OK but thats about it. I don't see why people make such a big deal about their donuts.

OH YEAH...Shipleys rocks!!!!! That was my breakfast 4 days out of the week when i was going to college! as for new businesses, IHOP would be great. open 24 hours and better than skillet...hopefully. But what is with our waitreses. seems the only way to get good service in this town is to become personal friends with one or more of the waitstaff...and being friends with the cook would be good too. there are a hand full of good waitreses at applebees, one at don francos, two at skillet, havent met any really good ones anywhere else...sad that the food is good but the service sucks<_< have you guys been to the Moderno? the service there rocks, you take out a cigaret and bam someone is runing up to light it for you, now thats service, every resaturant in town should pay those guys to come train the wait staff....lol i know it cost money but hey its a thought! maybey the waiters should pool in the money for it. better tips for them!! :D lol but what i reeeaaallly want is a book store!!!!!!!!! oh if only!!

King, I agree and disagree with you. IHOP food does taste real good. As for Whataburger their burgers are the best.
Now if you want to talk about bad burgers talk about Burger King.
Recently in Del Rio they closed theirs a while back. The place was so dirty and the service was the worst even the food was bad as well. Good thing the Mangers from Uvalde stepped in an had the place reopened. I haven't gone to EP Burger king in a while. Last time I went the food was good and the service was not bad at all plus the place was nice and clean. Is the Place still the same?

Burger King as a whole, all across the country as far as I can tell is a pretty sad case these days.
When I was younger I favored Burger King over McDonalds and many restaurants actually. I always liked the food..
The last 10 years or so it seems they have been on a steady decline in food quality and cleanliness. Service, well I never expect that in a fast food joint really.
I think the problem is that they have been bought by so many different companies/entities that it's probably tough to keep their act together. :(
Too bad, I miss the days of a great flamed broiled Whopper, mmmmm... In the days before Rick's Burgers, these were the best thing going. :D

As for IHOP, I have been pretty happy with the food and service at least at the ones I have been to in Dallas and San Antonio.
Everything is relative though.. You have to realize that it's like an upscale Denny's or Kettle. You can expect the same sort of menu but with greater attention to food quality, how it's cooked etc. and the service usually is superior to other places of this type.
Thing is though, I am afraid the service level may be different in an IHOP in Eagle Pass vs. somewhere else.
It seems that gratuity in Eagle Pass is not something that many people think they should provide to their waiter or waitress. This has been my experience anyhow.. Heck, when I went to the AppleBees the other day they had stamped in Big Red Letters "Gratuity NOT Included" as a BIG hint! Well, let's just say that you would never see this in an AppleBees in any other town that I can think of. Guess what, there is a reason for it..
I often hear people in Eagle Pass complain of Bad Service in restaurants but on the other hand I see the same people that never want to leave a decent tip or a tip at all in many cases. So, if you want good service you have to be willing to at least give your server something in return.. This is the way it works, even in Eagle Pass :)
So, the next time you go to your favorite restaurant and get that waitress who is famous for giving you bad service.. Try giving her a decent tip this time or even a little more than decent and see how you are treated by her next time.. Just as an experiment if nothing else.. :)
FYI, not speaking to anyone in particular, just in general to those that think the service in EP sucks (and I agree, it does).

Don't quote me on this. But, I belive at one time tips were 10% of the total bill. I think now it's up to 15%. I try to leave the 15% , but if the service really sucks I leave 5% depending on how bad the service was

Just an added note on tipping.
I think it stinks that the servers are not paid even minimum wage because the remainder of their income is expected to come from the tips.
The employer should pay the servers salary and the tips should be an added incentive IF they do a good job not an expected part of their income.
Paying for the meal then paying for the tip on top of it stinks.. Oh, let's not forget the 8% +- sales tax.
Thing is, even though I feel like this setup stinks, it exist none the less and I don't want the waiter or waitress to go without $$ when waiting on my table. If you have ever waited tables, you know that it can be a thankless and trying job some days.
This whole time I thought it was 15% to 20% .
Maricela
08-11-2004, 08:15 AM
There are quite a few places that pay minimum wage for waiters and the tips are extra. My Son in law has a 2nd job as a waiter in a chinese restaurant and he gets paid as mentioned above. I try to leave something for the waiter/waitress even if the service stinks.

Just implies that they were worried that you would not leave a proper tip, it's an insult to me really since I tend to tip better than average and sometimes I get downright stupid with it. I waited tables when I was younger so I guess that's part of my reasoning.

Lol, I really dont think writing gratuity not included or calculating the tip for you is a personal insult. I for one would hate to be a waitres in eagle pass, i see how much people leave on tables as a tip. a lot of people leave 1 or 2 dollars reguardless of how much they eat or drink. ( If i ever leave one or two dollars its usualy as an insult to the server) I used to waitress and beleive me when i have a good tipper i tend to remember the face and try to earn the tip from them. but on a bright note ive noticed the service in applebees has gotten a bit better latley, maybey theres something to their reminding people to tip. its just sad that it has to come to that but hey whatever works!!

-- Franchisee Robert Kusenberger, Jr. has committed to develop
three new IHOP restaurants over the next four years in the
counties of Val Verde, Maverick, Uvalde and Webb within the
state of Texas. Mr. Kusenberger is currently involved with a
family business that runs 32 convenience stores, six wholesale
fuel distributorships and four Subway franchises
Construction of the First of the four IHOP's will begin Soon in Del Rio. Completion of IHOP in Del Rio will be in Mid December. Over the period of the Next Four years Eagle Pass will get one as well.
No word yet if Eagle Pass will be the Next City after Del Rio to get the IHOP or the last city.

Well, I went to the web site and could not find anything about Eagle Pass getting a Fuddruckers.
I don't see how Eagle Pass can get one if they don't even met the recommendations by the company.
Demographic Recommendations
Minimum 80,000 people in 5-mile radius
Average household income - $50,000 and above
Predominance of families with children
At least 50% of population between 24 and 54
Concentration of office and/or retail
Movie theaters and entertainment facilities are a plus
Traffic counts in excess of 20,000 per day
Eagle Pass doesn't even have that many people in a 50 mile radius. Plus the average household income recommended is pretty high.

What fees does Eagle Pass charge in order to build a buissness/resturant?
In Del Rio the main problem was that the City building inspectors where complete A$$ Holes that was brought to attention by the Chamber of Commerce and presented to the City Council. The Mayor and Council Men/Women along with the City Engineer agreed that the problem why out of town Contractors had a problem with inspectors was because there is not enough building inspectors. So the city has since hired 2 more Building Inspectors to help keep up with the pace of the city. Almost all business that are built in Del Rio are from out of town companies. Yet they do hire locals to do other type of work. Like Dry Wall, Painting, Brick Laying, Landscaping etc.

Pizza Hut (Remolding)

Well acording to some information i have gathered, thats the way it goes.
Where are the contractors for Fudrockers from.
Why not just issue more business permits on the per year other than holding business. Why try to control the city's growth. They should stop the house construction which is booming at a much faster paste and less business opening.
