Dear Joe,
Thanks so much for your suggestion regarding a potential Starbucks store location in Eagle Pass, Texas.
We're always looking for great new places to open stores, so I'd be more than happy to pass along your comments to our Store Development Team for their consideration.
Thanks for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your interest and look forward to seeing you in our stores soon!
Warm Regards,
Ana K.
Customer Relations Representative
Starbucks Coffee Company
Here's the letter I received from Starbuck's after sending a request that they locate a store here in Eagle Pass. I think this is encouraging that Starbuck's takes the time to respond to my request. I encourage all Eagle Passans to register your request for a Starbuck's online.:)

You see this is exactly what I mean about Eagle Pass needing a place for people to chat and meet. Whether it's for business and pleasure Eagle Pass needs a Starbuck's. Has anyone heard an update over whether they are going build one? It is so very desperately needed. According to my survey launched here on EPonline, "What's Your Poison?", more people answered that coffee was their poison. Even more than beer! Boy, that's very hard to believe!
Well, does anyone have an update? Have they announced it on the radio anymore? Eagle Passans need to be more aggressive if they want to make their town a little more classier. For example, if you want the radio station to know that you want a Starbuck's in Eagle Pass you need to express that interest to them because sometimes companies will hire radio stations to market themselves. If no one calls the radio station then no one is interested. Make your voice be heard!!

It's definately coming in. I heard that a guy from Monterrey was the one who bought the Starbucks franchise in EP. I'm not sure when they'll be ready, but there is no doubt that Starbucks is coming in. Potential locations include the old Taco Cabana location, in front of Wal Mart, and I'm not sure where else. It'll likely end up on Bibb or Main Street.
I could sure use a cold starbuck's right about now.

Starbucks doesn't franchise. Every location is owned by the corporation itself, with the exception of those located in airports, universities, hotels, and other such entities. So the Monterrey thing may be just a rumor. I have a few friends that work at Starbucks in Mcallen and they have been told by there superiors EP is getting a Starbucks.

I had read that on their website but thought this entrepreneur from Monterrey may have had some way of going around it.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess my source was wrong. But nonetheless, Starbucks WILL come to EP. Now whether it makes it or not, thats whole other story. I think it will make it, the key is location, location, location. If it's highly visible(like Applebee's) it will succeed. If it's somewhat hidden(Don Franco's) it will struggle.

I AM GLAD YOU SAID IT AND NOT ME, BUT I DITTO ON THAT ONE. FOR THE AMOUNT OF ONE CUP YOU CAN BUY A CAN OF COFFEE. THE ONLY TIME I BUY THAT EXPENSIVE COFFEE IS WHEN I AM AT THE AIRPORT. ONE CUP OF COFFEE THAT STRONG WILL KEEP ME AWAKE SO IF THE PLANE GOES DOWN I WILL KNOW IT, AND HAVE A CHANCE TO SAY A LITTLE PRAYER...HA!HA!!!!! I THINK I CAN FINE BETTER THINGS TO EAT FOR THAT PRICE OF A CUP OF COFFEE. UNOS VEVOS RANCHEROS CON TOSINO, OR BARBACO, OR CHICHARONS CON CHILI Y UNA TASA DE CAFEE $3.49. I WILL BE FULL FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.

Hey Energy, why are you looking at the glass half empty? I think there's a market for people who have class and know that a cup of Folger's coffee is not the same as a cup of coffee from Starbuck's. Not to mention, there will be many people from Piedras Negras that are middle class to upper middle class who WILL come to patronize the soon to be Eagle Pass Starbuck's. Once the store opens, it will need to hire people with excellent customer service skills, if not it will fail. They will have to work for their tips. I also think that if people are willing to pay $3-5 bucks on drinks at the clubs in Piedras Negras or in Eagle Pass at the Kickapoo Casino that people will be able to shell out that kind of money for coffee. Besides, it will be next to banks and people will want to frequent that establishment because they do get paid well, and they want to jump start their work day. I mean somebody has to raise the bar or else Eagle Pass will not be that desirable place for lower, middle, and upper middle class people to move to. Another big client will be the hospital there will be many nurses and doctors who will need coffee to stay up during their graveyard shifts. We need to promote business not keep it out. How will Eagle Pass gain any new businesses if no one wants to take a risk. Think about it! I think it will catch it on. There are plenty of classy people in Eagle Pass!:)

You got me thinking, you say banks get paid well ? Have you talk to somebody that works at the bank. How much is well paid in EP. Hospitals, does EP new hospital have a cafeteria? Do you know that Hospitals have their own place where nurses and Dr go for coffee and lunch. They got ref, mirco,tables/chairs and what ever they need to rest. I am just saying cause my daugther and husband they are both RN and I sometimes take in food for their parties. U talk about tips, ops, I never gave a tip at the airport StarB. Its just a counter coffee, and some pastery, only one or two people working. Let me see paid $3 to $5 a cup of coffee plus you want a tip that is $4 to $6 and 5 days a week that will equal mmmmmmmmmm about $30. a week plus of course I have to eat, maybe I will also spent $6 per lunch mmmm at 5 days that is another $30. mmmmmmmm that means I will spent $60 per week on coffee and lunch. MMMMMMMMMMMMM p/m will be !$120. Do you think some people will like to keep that $120. P/m for gro, bill, gas for the family or drink StarB to show off you are an upper class.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that if you don't want a Starbuck's in Eagle Pass you DON'T HAVE TO patronize it. Starbuck's coffee is a step above Sanka or Folger's. It's coffee that MOST people know is a of a better quality than generic brands. If you want to work for free and give Folger's and Sanka free endorsements go right ahead, but your not getting paid for it! HA HA HA!
I guess it takes a cheap person to know another cheap person. People in Eagle Pass want quality to be sold in their community. Oh, and Irenera about hospital cafeterias, many nurses and doctors here in Austin go outside of the hospital to get their food, because the food at hospital cafes suck!
Starbuck's will not only be a place to drink coffee, but a place to meet and socialize. People will be able to get the internet for free, and they will be able to burn CDs at a reasonable cost! Eagle Pass desperately needs hip places for people to meet. I guess a few people like to meet in the streets, but as for me I like to meet people in a coffee shop. It just seems more civilized.
Besides, my friend from McAllen says that the Starbuck's stores in McAllen are very successful. They definitely don't want to drink the coffee their grandmothers drank! Yuck!!!!:(

Well Irenera I'm with you there. I sure wouldn't pay 5 bucks for a cup of coffee no matter how high quality it is. Drinking 5 dollar coffee does not make you a classy person, if it does well then I guess I will never be a classy person! :(

Wasn't that the Maxwell House ad campaign for a long time? Coffee is coffee is NOT coffee. There is definitely a difference in taste. Everybody has their preferences. Wal-Mart coffee and a bag of fresh ground Sumatra have very different tastes.
Our coffee preferences are not a matter of class but of taste. Some people don't care about coffee the way others do.
I love Starbuck's and yes it IS very expensive but I go when I can. My husband and I enjoy quiet mornings at the one closest to us. Right now there are 4 or 5 in a 3 mile radius. While not on a "date", we do enjoy our time together there. It is quiet and very early in the morning the sun hits the place just right.
Again, it's a matter of preference. If you were at my house for a cup of coffee you might get Starbuck's, Einstein's or Hills Brothers Medium Roast. Folgers gives us heartburn and Maxwell House gives me a headache. Go figure.
Lucky for me, our friends know my husband is a coffee junkie and we always get gifts of coffee from them. No, they are not cheap. They know what we like.
Anyway, any business that promotes the economy and gives people a chance to socialize in a "grown-up" environment deserves a chance. I'd much rather chat with my friends at a Starbuck's instead of McDonald's. Conversely, my daughter would rather hang out with her friends at a Chucky Cheese or McDonald's.
It's all abour preference and taste. Class is way overrated anyway and if I keep my pinky up too long it goes numb and I drop the coffee.
Good luck to Starbuck's and all the baristas in training. :)

In case you don't know Irenera, Starbuck's helps the many communities that they serve. For example, Starbuck's has three core values that they live up to: (1) Living our values (2) Spirit of Partners and (3) Local Action
(1)Living our values One of our guiding principles is: to contribute positively to our communities and our environment. Giving back is part of our corporate culture and the way we do business. At the broadest level, we make community investments in three areas: literacy (http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/foundation.asp), environment (http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/envaffairs.asp) and coffee origin communities (http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/origins.asp). In addition, a large portion of our giving supports local organizations that our partners (employees) personally care about.
(2)Spirit of partners We have many programs that encourage and support partners (http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/givesback.asp) (employees) to make a difference in their local communities. Through Make Your Mark (http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/givesback.asp), Starbucks matches partner and customer volunteer hours with cash contributions to nonprofit organizations. Partners are also able to contribute to the CUP (Caring Unites Partners) Fund, a financial assistance program to help other partners in need. In addition, we provide product donations to local organizations where our partners volunteer.
(3)Local action While most of our local giving is linked to the involvement of our partners, Starbucks finds additional ways to help strengthen community life (http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/localsupport.asp). Some are large-scale efforts done in all North American communities where Starbucks stores are located, while other initiatives are unique to a specific community. For example, in our hometown of Seattle, Washington, Starbucks provides grants for Seattle-area parks. Seattle’s library system was also strengthened through significant funding from Starbucks. Please review our donation and sponsorship guidelines (http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/donations.asp) to find out if your organization is eligible to receive support from Starbucks.
That is way cool for a company to be socially responsible like Starbuck's. It is a rarity for companies in general to do this for their communities! Oh, and by the way Irenera many people here in Austin drink coffee as a social thing. So I invite people that I don't know to drink a cup of coffee with to get to know them better. It is just the hip thing to do here in Austin! If you are a penny pincher, then they sell coffee for $1.50, and believe me, once you train your palate to drink gourmet, quality coffee you won't want to go back to any other coffee from the grocery store! It's just like a fine wine, if you want to drink wine from the box it's up to you, or if you wan't to drink Marquez de Casares or Monticello then it's all up to you Irenera. The beauty of it is that we all have choices, and I choose to drink the best. If you don't have any money and can't afford the more expensive coffee then you don't have to go visit Starbuck's. It's your God given right!:) Oh, and thank you Zunzune, I couldn't have phrased it better!!!!

To me, i fine the best cup of coffe at Ihop. Cofee is like a picker upper or a relaxer. I get up at 5am and I have the timer on Mr. Coffee. I have a favorit cup. The one I use at home has to be small short and thick and heavy. Coffee taste good on my cup, no other cup can be use. for work I take this long heat stays in for an hr. and fits right on the cuby of the truck el gordo got me that from San Diego, no other cup can be use to travel. We all have our little own habits. Have anybody taste coffee that is boil until its so think like ink, they power small amount of the coffe on a glass, then they bring a cup with boil milk and you mix it togther in the glass. Its use in Mexico and also in Puero Rico and other places....its ok, but on winter put a shot of Brandy and wala.....that coffee will wake you up.

Anyway, cafe' cubano and turkish coffee are both similar in brewing. Turkish coffee is a little stronger and there is no milk in it. The other coffee is wonderful and strong.

Belive me we are the buyers of everything in this world. Just because you like or dislike a coffee you decided to call people ignorant. I had bought 3 houses, 15 new cars during my life time and I don't have to show off and say because I drink so and so coffee I am well off or poor or what ever. You want war you got it. Bill Millers, you know that if you work there one year they will reinverse your tutition/fee for college and so many other places. They work with the students. If you think drinking coffee makes you hip, who cares just cuse you want to look hip. classy and yara, yara, it doesn't make you any better then what you are. hey, world i am hip, i take 2 to three vacation a year and you know i just spent 2,500 on a curise to hawii, i am cool, hip, classy and but I was call ignorant by a young punk that thinks he knows all about business because he drinks a $5. cup of coffee. Don't explain to me about business, I just have to laugh on this one........Mr. Punk, I am a buyer, I make the world turn, I am a big part of the economic on this world.

I say give Starbucks a chance. Try it out first and if you like it keep going if you don't then stop going that simple.
I think Starbucks will make it almost anywhere. I mean Mexico City has several Starbucks. That means all those folks from PN and all the kool young teenagers and young adults in EP are definitely going to want to be seen around town with a cup of Starbucks Coffee or cappuccino or Tea etc...
Has construction started on the Starbucks if so when does it open?

For what its worth Starbucks is a caring company. The have great benefits and are careful in choosing what companies they do business with. They have a list of requirements before they bring a new coffee bean company on board. For example, they need to be enviromentally friendly and good to their employees. I don't mind spending the extra money for a good cup of coffee and for a company that cares for the well being of not only their employees but, the employees of their wholesalers.

I personally dont drink too much coffee, when I do its from Starbucks cause it is on the expensive side. My sister though is addicted to it and buys one everyday, I feel the same way Joey does, geez its not even built yet (?) and people are already dismissing it?

It is an addictive place to go for coffee. I enjoy them as desserts. Anyway, I will support them where ever I find one no matter the price. They, in my opinion make the best coffee.

I am not a star buck's fan. But I had no choice since it was the only place open in the hospital where I waited for 34hrs. I ate a grease hamburger and tons of different kind of coffee. I couldn't even name them, I was just trying to stay awake.
But right now I am making Floggers, classic roast that will go fine with the Chocolate cake I am baking. Two days ago was rum cake, and before that was pineapple upside down. Thats why I hate rainy days, eat, eat, eat, for the past 4 days rain, rain, and more rain.

When its your own daughter, you move mountains. She was on a big private room where the mother delivers the baby I was there with her husband. I pray and wish I could take her pain. She was in delivery for 28hrs. Until 2am they decided to take her to surgery for C/S. Once the Dr. took her to surgery I had to wait at the waiting room. The Aturium where Starbucks was down stars from the waiting room. The stairs was there in the waiting room looking down at the Aturium. "FOOD",COFFee. She had her baby at 2:30 am, but there was no way I was going to drive home at that time. Its still dark, and hell I live way,way on the other side of town. Plus my whole body was hurting. I was blowing in and out and pushing too.

Noah Webster took care of that for us about 180 or so years ago. He also wrote many of the first "readers" "grammars" and "spellers" used to teach in schools. Did you know that he also championed federal copyright laws because of dictionary. These laws were passed somewhere in the 1790's. I owe my love of words to my mom and Evelyn Urbina. Both made me read the dictionary on a regular basis. My mom on a daily basis.

Guess who put him through college, guess who did his research papers, guess who did his micro Biol reports and it goes on and on. Guess who did all his military books for promotion. Should I say more. He end up with five college degrees. He got up to Capt on the military So in other words I up grade his life. Well, not really. I can say I was the side line. Example on Micro Biol, he had an option to do 5 reports two page each on Micro organism for one point each that will be add to the final grade. He was not going to do it whats one point per report too much work. I said 5 points is 5 points you never know when you are going to need them. I did the five reports, he turn them in. He didn't even bother to read them. The next time they meet the class the instructor was so fascinated with the reports and read it out loud that he gave him 10 points instead of the 5 points. My husband said that he pray so fast that the instructor wouldn't ask any questions on the report. Well a few months later my husband father die and husband had a test the following day. He manage pass it . At the end that extra points he got on the report he got an "A."
I will enroll him with instructors I knew because I had already taken that class. Hist II. this instructor gives you 100 questions for review and out of the 100 you will get 50 on the test. I will do the 100 questions and than make different tests. When he was watching TV I will give him the 100 questions with the answers and tell him to study them. 10 minutes later I will give him a test. And I will do that over and over until he got them all correct.
I would do that for each class. His research paper, we drove to CC and he was telling me his main point of the story. I would read the same book and end up with different ideas. Two heads are better than one. We put the research together and we got it. It was like that for many years. I learn alot from medical books that he and my daughter were studying. You all talk of how many Websters you got, I had 25 of Medical ones and 15 Med books.
I can say his degrees are good. cus on each degree he had to pass the State Board.
On military besides school, they gave him his books to read and answer questions than take a test. I will read them, answer the questions, will under line the book where I found the answers so he can go back and make sure it was the correct answer. Which he never did. He would just mail out. He got no lower than 95. I learn about the war of the toe. He shot himself on the toe by accident and thats how one war started, cus the other side thought they were shoot at them. I learn what to do in case of an atom bomb. And many other wars stories. I was not force to do it, I enjoy it. I had a good life, I enjoy my life the good times and the bad ones. But than he pulls this way and I pull that way. We started going different directions. He is too much into the military, and I was getting tired of it. I wanted more of life, it was time for us. To him military is his life. I end it.

Starbucks has posted the list of the 600 coffee houses it will be closing. Remember I said I had about 5 within a whatever mile radius? 4 of them are closing in Arlington. The total in the metroplex is about 30 or so. Looks like Austin is losing 2, SA 1 and Houston 8 I think. Too much too fast I think.
Wow. As long as they don't close the one on Potranco (SA) cause I will be lost.
