Is anybody certified in any of these? Do give a brief description of your IT experience, including networking, internet, etc...

LOL so far, only 4 people have voted, and it was all for windows. personally I use windows, but every OS has its advantage, and their disadvantage. so you cant say one is better than the other. windows is pretty much the most generalized OS, so the majority of people use them, but you would always get many bugs and errors on it, especially on the older versions of windows. Mac is the preferred OS to use with graphics and media design, because they're basically powerhouses and finely-tuned machines... macs on their own are pretty flawless, but the GUI(Graphical User Interface) can be difficult and awkward to adjust to for some people, especially those switching over from PCs. Unix and Linux are more for the serious computer techies, especially programmers. I'm not too familiar with them yet, but i know for sure that Unix came along first, and it was more text-based, like MS-DOS, but it definitely had more to it than DOS, not neccessarily more complex. Linux is basically an upgraded form of Unix, but since its also open-source, there's actually several different versions u can find, each tweaked to that person's preference. Linux is considered very powerful in the aspect of programming and data capabilities, because I think it lets you circumvent or gain short-cuts to certain things, to cut through program redundancy... don't quote me on that, I've only heard it through the grape-vine, so I could be wrong, but I think I got the idea down more or less! But by all means, correct me if I'm wrong. peace :)
...and oh yeah, I'm studying to earn my Computer Science Degree, in case you're still wondering.

Cool. as for linux, my near future goals are to get certified in Linux and Windows. My bachelors degree is also in Computer Science! For networing purposes i like Unix and Novell. I like Macs' only for video editing and graphincs. And windows is the best choice for client operating systems since most people know how to use it. So are you from Eagle Pass? Where are you taking classes? I am in T.A.M.U.K at Kingsville. I plan to finish with a Computer Science Bachelors, right now i have a Computer Networking Associates, an A+ certification and CISCO certification.

of course I'm from Eagle Pass, dude, why else would I be in this forum? :P I'm currently studying at UTSA. Unfortunately, I'm still learning, and I still have A LOT to learn, so I don't know as much as I should, and I would've liked to have been CISCO certified and junk like that, but I didn't know what those classes were about back in highschool. All I really am is just a programmer-in-training, nothing more, nothing less. I want to become a video game programmer... but i'm starting to realize I really don't know that much, and it has me worried. I'm also considering changing to psychology as my major, since I also seem to have a natural affinity for that.

Well dude, some people in this forum aren't from EP. I think you mentioned that in another one of the topics :P . As for CISCO. most people fully certified make six figure salaries. And trust me, you are not even starting to learn the meaning of networking with high platform routers in high school. I think your'e right about not knowing as much as you should. Try hitting the books harder. And if you have a question about something you might not know about i will be happy to help you out with that.

I decided to reply to an old thread...
Actually there is a program called CrossOver from a company called CodeWeavers that runs a reimplemented version of the win32 API on top of Linux. It is based off the Wine Project wich is a open sourve version of the win API. It supports a VERY large chunk of windows based programming. Here is a link where you can select a program catagory and see a list of programs they support. Also worth note that it will run many other programs not on the list it's just that they havn't tried it yet themselves.

I will check it out sometime this week. I like to host game servers from a linux box, like counter strike and half life. I think they run better.
