I know I might be kind of ignorant, but what sports are Hispanics good at besides baseball or soccer? We are very seldom promoted in the mainstream media.
I think if high schools in predominately Hispanic towns would promote other sports besides sports that we know we're not good at, adolescents would become interested in those sports. I'm talking about tennis, cycling, ice hockey, basketball, golf, track and field, the list goes on and on. I would even challenge the Hispanic community to groom future Olympians, because you know what? Open your eyes because we are being underrepresented.
I know that there is a lot of untapped talent out there, but the sports world is just not interested. We need to send scouts to find talented athletes within the Hispanic community. I don't know but it seems nobody is interested in doing just that.
Hispanic kids do not have any role models, especially in football, where it is being so hyped up like as if it were a new sport or the Olympics. Me personally, I don't have time to watch a "game" of whatever because it just isn't in my schedule. I wish I did, but these are people who must tivo their games or check out the scores on their cell phones. As for me, I am not that fanatical. It's like people here Austin, it's so funny, they wear burnt orange, they say they bleed burnt orange, they drive in cars burnt orange, they write with pens that are burnt orange, they wear burnt orange underwear, like anyone cares!!!! They only seem to promote football the most. They suck at tennis, they suck at basketball, they suck at volleyball, they suck at baseball. They ONLY promote football. It's delirious. It's like the twilight zone. It's almost in order to be socially accepted here you MUST wear burnt orange or else. It's ridiculous. And where does Dallas get off to saying they are "America's Team" They've already been "America's Team". It's time to let someone else hold that title! People are just not normal here!
Where is Tony Romo ancestory from? He is a Dallas Cowboy player born in Calif.

There is representation though it is not "loud". Here are a few examples of Mexican born athletes in the US and Mexican-American athletes. These guys don't play football either.
Derek Parra-Gold Medalist Speed Skater born in US
Scott Bocanegra-Soccer
Vinny Castilla-Baseball born in Oaxaca
Humberto Cota-baseball born in San Luis Rio Colorado Mexico
Horacio Llamos (sp?) former NBA-Phoenix Suns born in Sinaloa
Lorena Oxhoa-golf-toured with LPGA born in Guadalajara
Jose Luis Ramirez-first Mexican to run Nextel Cup Race born in Mexico City
There are so many more in football and of course wrestling and boxing although some don't consider the latter sports.
Then there's Miguel de Icaza-born in Mexico City and credited with being one of the creators of GNOME and actor Edward Furlong born Edward Walter Torres.
There are many more to name but they quietly plug along making a difference.

Hispanic representation is growing on coaching and front office staffs as well. And the NFL Hispanic tradition includes Pro Football Hall of Fame tackle Anthony Muñoz, two-time Super Bowl champion head coach Tom Flores, and former Super Bowl MVP Jim Plunkett.

For those who don't know! Tony Romo is mexican/anglo. He was born in California, but his father was in the Navy and met his wife in Wisconsin. unfortunately, Tony Romo's grandfather was from Muzquiz/Palau Coahuila, Mexico area. His grandfather moved to San Antonio and opened a resturaunt there then they close it and moved to Crockett, Texas where they still live. Tony's mother is a Tejana from Robstown area, but the grandparents met in Wisconsin when they used to travel for migrant work. This information was on the web in the San Antonio Express News (mysa.com) last year. So maybe some of ya'll have family roots to the Romos from Muzquiz/Palau.

I was reading, and am curious as to why it's unfortunate that Tony Romo's grandfather is from Muzquiz/Palau, Mexico.

I did not mean your interpetation. I meant unfortunately he was born in Muzquiz. And not He was unfortunate to be born in Muzquiz. What I mean is for the other writers that say that there are no Hispanics in Football or other Pro Sports. It is fortunate for us from Eagle Pass and the Nothern Coahuila region that Tony Romo's grantfather is the our area. My father lived his young life in Palau, Coahuila, Mexico. He told when he his mother and sister used to live in a hacal by the railroad tracks that one day fire came out of the train that burned their hacal. Therefore, my father's birth certificate was half burned. My father was borned in San Angelor, but moved to Palau when he was young. It is fortunate for us that Tony Romo has family or his grandfather came from the area. I do not know if Tony Romo has ever visited Muzquiz area? I have never visited the area myself. The fatherest I have gone is Nava with a friend of mine. Unfortnately, for the rest of the world that Tony Romo's grandad was from Muzquiz. It show people that second and third generation Mexican-Americans can suceed in life and shows how humble someone's background has.
