New Members

It's good to see so many new members on the forum signing up. Yet why don't most of them Post anything after they register?

In the last month and the first of this month May 1 - June 1 2004. There have been a total of 26 members signing up. Out of all of those 26 Members that signed up only 5 have posted anything. What is up with that? Why sign up on the forum if you are not going to post? They might as well stay as guest. Well that is what I think.

Maybe they are intimated by other members that might say something about their post if they where to post something. <_<

First of all Rapunzel is not my Friend. I don't know where you got that idea. Yet Rapunzel was a great member on the Forum. Always keeping it clean. It's ashame some of you all don't welcome new Members with open arms like you all say you do. :unsure:

Here's some advice to the Newbie's on the Forum. Feel free to post in fact everyone here encourages that it keeps the forum alive. Except when you are a new member don't come on to strong some of the Veteran's will feel like you are trying to dominate the Forum and go into attack mode.

That is exactly what happened to Rapunzel. Now thanks to those few people we no longer see her around on the Forum. She sure was a great poster and had some very interesting comments.

P.S. Lets not talk about someone that is not here to defend themselves. This is all history now so lets all move on now. So stop the squealing to the new one's about past members.

The thing is that people like to be treated with respect whether a newbie or a veteran. Some people have posted in the past like they are superior to the rest because you don't belong to a certain group, etc.. and when that happens some members decide to slap them a little and shape them back into place.

Everyone knows treat others like you want to get treated. :)

Well I was a "licha" and went back and checked Ratapunzels posts (which actually turns out to be Rapunzel) HA!HA! and actually I thought some of them were quite funny. But I can also see how she could get quite annoying. I think she was getting a "high" knowing she was pissing you all off. Wish I had been around at that time. LOL This forum has gotten quite boring since then. Maybe we can get Rapunzel to come back. At least more people would want to come back and see what the next reply would be. Who knows, maybe more people would post. Rapunzel get ur @$$ back here and start posting. (No offense Rapunzel!)

LOL This forum has gotten quite boring since then.

Your right on that Evie. The Forum has really changed since then now your lucky if you get one or two people to post on the forum once a day.

When Rapunzel was here she kept the forum going. Everyday was something different.

Now the Forum is at a stand still. Of the Few Members that do post. Some just stick to certain topics. Others post on all topics which is good.

Yet unless we get another person like that soon expect the forum to get even more boring.

I can't control the entire forum. Getting the Forum to be exiciting like it used to be is a team effort.

The problem here is that some people don't start new topics. So there isn't much of a varity to chose from.

I have been a member for a long time and I see members come and go.

I know you have been a member for a very long you make that point clear when you bring up the past. And yes I too have seen memebers come and go. And that's a bad thing if we keep seeing members come and go.

Some bring in new topics to talk about, others just come and complain about how boring it is, yet they bring no interesting topics to talk about.

Well, we are talking about how boring the Forum has gotten lately and look at all the post the topic has gotton. It seems to me this topic is getting more attention then other topics on the forum. ;)

I know you can't control the whole forum and neither can I but, I try and put in my 2 cents when I can. The thing about new topics well, no one gets paid to start one so their is no obligation. :)

About the members coming and go... it's not a bad thing at all because maybe the new ones will bring more topics just like you brought the Del Rio topic. I see nothing bad about that. Also, we still have members that have been here for a long time and still participate. ;)

Del Rio's water comes from a Natural Spring that pumps millions of gallons each day of fresh clean tasting water. Where does Eagle Pass get their water from? The Rio Grande :lol: Maybe you are the one that should consider making a switch from tap water to bottled water. Because something is making you not think right.

This is a great forum because I don't have time to read and post in the Del Rio forum. I did go and checked it out yesterday but, I too would be visiting and posting in this one. You seem to have some great points. That could become good topic starters. That is what the forum needs right now.

It does seem like no one likes talking about what's going on in Eagle Pass and Surrounding areas. Most people do want to hear about gossip and who is cheating on who. Yet that is not all this forum is made up of.

Mena is right on one part there is a lot you have to read before you get to understand the forum and it's members.

Even though you might just see the same 5-6 people on all the time it doesn't mean there is no variety on the forum.

Like Mena has pointed out to me if we think the forum is boring or is missing something don't complain but do something to help out the forum.

The forum has really been slow for some odd reason. And will only get slower as the holidays come. This is the time to do something if we don't want the forum to become a ghost town.

Thanks for the info and yes i have been reading alot and its funny as hell i live in austin but all my family is in eagle pass and my sister started a business kaydom events doing dances and i love eagle pass i just dont like the fact that noone there has no ambiton and they settle for what they have im not saying everyone but the majority of the people so as a good topic starter i would like to ask

What three things do you all think eagle pass needs?
mine are

1. BOOK STORE , it would be nice if are community was a little bit more informed

2. We need a Temp Agency, since so many people are out of work that would do wonders maybe someone else than el tio will get a job

3. And we need to fix the river walk area that would be awesome for outdoor events

This are things in different areas but it all comes back to the same thing making eagle pass a better more enjoyable place to live

In my opinion Eagle Pass needs JOBS!!! And plenty of them. The City and Chamber of Commerce need to get together and find ways of making businesses come to Eagle Pass...

I am not talking about Fast Food Joints or Chain Stores. I am talking Major Employers like Factory's etc. Sure Fast Food Restaurants make the city look nicer and give the citizens more of a variety to chose from when going out to eat. But lets stop and think here people Fast Food places are for mainly for teenagers to work in. Not for someone that is going to be raising a family.

Another thing that would help is clean up the city. I know all city's have trash problems and litter problems but someone organize a city wide clean up ask the local garbage company if they will lend trucks for people can dispose of trash that is picked up all over the city. First impressions are everything. Eagle Pass will never attract major employers if it doesn't clean up.

Also this is something that is going on in Del Rio for some time now. The school District offers Free ESL classes and GED classes to anyone in the community for free. This gives a chance for people that don't know English to learn and for they could be able to get a Diploma. This give people a way better chance of finding a job that will pay

True jobs has always been an issue thats why i left but we dont attract business or major companies becuase the community is not sorry to say educated companies look at the community the population companies will not come if the there is not enough people qualified to work for them it would not be worth it
thats why i say people settle for what they have i think a major problem in eagle pass you mentioned esl is that people do not know english i went to walmart to ask for a typewritter i swear 3 different people did not know what the hell i was talking about you go thru a drive thru and they say que te puedo dar how can people assume that the town speaks spanish people tend to forget we are on this side of the border dont get me wrong i love my raza but if some prospective employeer comes to our town and notices that every business they go to conduct business in spanish they are not coming .....people even get offended when you ask for something in english like you are in the wrong it irrates the hell out of me that are community is so behind .... i took a friend to eagle pass they stated it was a cultural shock that is wrong becuase it is true

I understand what you are saying JeninAustin. In order for a community to succeed it has to be with the help of everyone in town. I must say Eagle Pass feels more like Mexico then the U.S. People really need to start speaking the English Language first especially when working at a restaurant or store. Then if a person does not know English the they can talk in Spanish. It's a shame that one cannot go into a store in there town and not get help in English because of the language barrier.

That is one main reason why major employers don't come to Eagle Pass. Because people don't even know the Basic's and that is the English Language.

Oh but it does happen..... or you have those who can speak English but prefer to speak Spanish only..... I feel knowing you can go into a store and speak either language and know they understand you in either language also is great.... And I truly am tired of hearing about ENGLISH ONLY or they should learn ENGLISH, (long story, but I live in Minnesota that should tell you alot) We could go on and on..... Being a border town you have to cater to the people who bring you the business and thats people from Mexico, who sometimes only speak Spanish..now where does it say...the people who don't understand spanish...can't LEARN how to SPEAK the LANGUAGE?? it works both ways..seeing as Hispanics will soon be the majority... but this is the wrong place to be discussing this topic No? this is for umm New Members am I right??? by the way.. All this talk about Eagle Pass being this and that and trying to compare it to Del Rio and who is the best, well damb people. Do you all hate Eagle Pass that much? There is no comparing them cuz they don't have the same people.
I know that with the bond not passing Eagle Pass missed out on alot of money and things but well what is done is done. You live and learn. And if EP is mostly spanish speaking people and out of a job it is because sooooo many people come in from Mexico to get the USA benefits. Then all this welfare they give out, no wonder they don't work. Why should they if everything is given to them free, free lunch, free clothes, free food, free check, free medical etc. Sometimes makes you want to quit your job and go an all this free stuff. But I wasnt brought up that way. My parents never got anything free, we weren't rich but we tried to get by on my fathers paycheck. Now don't get me wrong some people deserve to get all this help, but some make it a way of life. I remember the one time I tried to get some help, some of the people in there had so much gold jewelry, and really nice clothes and were asking for help. And I on the other hand didn't get any help because I earned 12 dollars more than I should have to get some help. Help that I wanted just to get myself settled after the divorce and not for life.
And about the gossip, gossip is a way of life whether you like it or not. I bet that if there was a gossip column everyone would go in there to read what was posted. And since there is no way of knowing who goes in, well how nice. So don't say no I wouldn't go in there cuz you know you would. I admit that I would. Remember curiousity killed the cat.
I guess what it all comes down to is like someone said, if you don't like it try to change it, if you don't like the topics--well start one that suits you, if you don't like the gossip---don't read it!!!, AND if you don't like Eagle Pass well get the HELL out!!!

Like I said last time this forum has a little bit of everything and you can probably find topics that are getting repeated here again.

About the English language barrier.. I hate to clue you guys but, I live in north Texas and there are alot of people that don't speak the language. I find myself translating conversations to strangers who are having a hard time trying to communicate because of the language barrier. I live in a VERY diverse community, name the ethic group and we have it. I am not saying EP doesn't have it's problem but, I haven't had that much of a problem in EP with language.
Another thing, don't forget that alot of companies hire people from Mex to work in their stores. I know some people are soooo lazy they just pretend they don't know what you are talking about so they don't have to help you.

About the comparison between EP and Del Rio are comments that come from Del Rio. I know this an EP forum but, someone keeps trying to compare our town to theirs. No offense ETX21. :)

Mena, That is why it's important for people that don't know the English Language to learn it. I mean c'mon people if you are willing to leave your country what ever country not just Mexico and come to the U.S. then you are willing enough to learn the English Language. Even though the U.S. does not have an official language. It is still the most widly used Language in America. When we go to Mexico not that many people know English if any so we have to either learn Spanish if we don't know it already to get by over there. So why does it have to be the same over here?

Believe it or not Evie, Del Rio and Eagle Pass are very similar in Many ways. Both City's have a Hispanic Majority. Both are Border Towns. And we have similar stores and restaurants. Now that both towns are growing we are seeing both towns drift apart in similarities yet there will always be a similarity of some sort.

I know it's easy to say if you don't like Eagle Pass then to get the HELL!!! Out. Well, that shouldn't be the case here people. If you don't like something don't turn your backs and run away from it like so people have done so. How about trying to fix what ever you don't like about your community.

I know I talk a lot about Del Rio and Eagle Pass. But the only reason I do so is because maybe some of you all can get ideas on what Del Rio is doing to make a themselves a better city. And vice versa. Eagle Pass needs to speak up on what they don't like about there town and get it fixed. This is the time to do all of this. The bigger the city get's the harder it will be to keep up with. And if the city can't keep up with it right now. How will they ever keep up with it once it get's larger?

You might not see Del Rio with any better ideas since you don't live in the Region. You are up in the North part of Texas and you really don't have no clue what's going on down here in the border. You just have to rely on what you hear and read. I don't I can see and read and hear what exactly is happening in my neck of the woods. ;)

Well, it depends how much cash your family wanted to spend on a hotel. If you don't want to shed a few dollars on a decent hotel a course you are going to have to sleep in a roach hotel. Del Rio has Ramada Inn, Howard Johnson Inn, Days Inn, La Quinta Inn, and Best Western and Holiday Inn, Then there are those "other" hotels as well.

I am guessing you have not been to downtown Del Rio in a while. It's really looking nice now. Especially now that its a Historic Downtown and the city is receiving state money on improvements. And plus new retail stores are being remodel and other buildings are being restored to their old conditions. Yet you wouldn't know all of this since you don't live in our Region. Yet you sure are quick to put your 2 cents on things you really don't know about. :D

Now would you like to share with us what "Major" Improvements EP has done in the Recent Years? I know the city still can't even fix their main street in town yet. How long does it take to fix a single road?

So that is where the old saying comes in : "Cada quien para su santo!" Everyone fends for themselves, you want it better you try to make it better. You are content with the way things are, well be happy. Who started all this comparison crap anyway???? Eagletx21 are you from Del Rio??? Evie, I am glad you asked me that if I was from Del Rio. Yes, I am from Del Rio. Yet my family members in Del Rio play a lot sports baseball and football and when I was growing up Eagle Pass was not a strange place for me. I would go to Eagle Pass very often and I became familiar with the town and surroundings. I still even go just to go shopping at the mall or to find some stuff that we might not find in Del Rio. Plus it gives me and my family a chance to eat at Peter Piper Pizza or Pop Eye's etc. You know places you don't have in Del Rio.

That is why I talk so much about both. I don't find nothing wrong about it. And if you read all my post carefully I don't put Eagle Pass down in a bad way. I just point out the problem areas the city has and give advice on how the people can fix this.

Now that I am a bit older I no longer go to EP as often but I do know someone that lives there and visit when I do go. So I get to hear about what's new in Eagle Pass and what's happening. In fact my Mother just went about a week ago with my cousin and she was telling me about the New ROSS store etc.

Ok so maybe trash was a harsh word to use, but some people still find it offensive when some one from another town talks bad about their town. Just like you found it offensive (in my opinion) when mena said that there were roach motels/hotels in Del Rio. Your right Evie, I guess that is why some of the folks on the Forum find me being a bit offensive. Yet I never put down Eagle Pass in a harsh way. I tend to give example's of how Eagle Pass can become a better place to live in. I use Del Rio as an example because. 5-10 years ago Del Rio and Eagle Pass where practically the same. We had very similar stores and restaurants and the size of both towns where about the same as well. Yet over the past Decade we have seen Del Rio move ahead on many things and Eagle Pass still moving ahead but at a way slower rate. My suggestions are not made to criticize the city. Yet in return I have been criticized personally by some members. Not only do I not put Eagle Pass Down like Mena Does about Del Rio. I tend to keep calm and not slash back on all the Rude Comments that have been made about me.

In return it makes me look better knowing that I don't have to act childish and be rude in order to make my points.

Evie, You seem to be a very understanding person on the forum. It's a shame other's cannot be like you. And take the Forum not too seriously. We must keep in mind this is a Forum. Where people post there Idea's and Feelings about Certain topics. Not everyone is going to agree on everything. Yet there is no reason to be rude to others because you don't see eye to eye with things.

Mena, I work as an interpreter/translator for the school district in Minnesota, and even though sometimes it gets to be hectic and overwhelming, knowing these people rely on you to communicate, the end result always makes me feel good. And the :) you get for a thank you are priceless... What's even better, is seeing these same people, months down the road, not needing your service anymore...I love what I do....

You know Etx21 I have been to Del Rio many times, and I still ask myself why I go. I am also not afraid to spend money to stay in a nice hotel if there is one, that was not an issue. When I stayed there we had reservations for a hotel because we wanted to stay close to where we were going. Also I go to EP quite often because my folks still live there, so I DON'T have to rely on what I hear or read. I mean just because I don't live down there doesn't mean anything. I probably go there more often than you go to Peter Pipers.

Should I tell you how many new elementaries have been built, how about the new High School, hmm maybe the renovation at the court house, how about the new HEB, Wal-mart, Fallas paredes, Whataburger, Chilli's, How about the new Cleo's ( sorry lost track of how many they have built) aah new Post Office, how about Dominos and all the new Dollar stores, hmm Casino, the additions to SWTJC like the driving schools, how about the new Sul Ross place, oh, the new IBC in the bank on main st. Do I have to name the new stores at the mall because there are quite a few? Like Dunlays or the bigger Bealls, how about the new Cinema place they have started working on at the mall. How about the new Big Truck company. How about night clubs, do they count too. You know this is just a start. So don't come bashing me about not knowing what is going on in my hometown. Just so you know..no one told me nor did I read about these places I was there to see it all.

This is a different way of getting in touch with someone. And some people tupe stuff in that they wouldn't say in personal conversations. They act ptetty stupid.

Because believe it or not, one gets the same feelings and emotions one gets when reading this stuff as when speaking to someone in person. If the other individual doesn't what the heck he/she is talking about, or if another person is totally weird or obnoxious, and plain stupid, the New Member might shy away from that. I mean, who wants confrontations and stupidity. There is enought of that out there in the streets.

Anyway, I just thought I would give you my reason as to why Some New Members might shy away from all this stuff.

Of course, there are other reasons....
some people really can't think.
can't type(it would take them for ever to send in some kind of response, not to mention the fact that it has to be logical....

Then there are others who just "thought it was cool" but they really can't handle it. I mean, like "talking to strangers" and all that....especially down south where the donkeys are, with Club 2000s and stuff like that....this is just too heavy for them.....if you know what I mean......

Maybe we need to ease up on them.....No?

Hey you guys how about if we start a welcoming committee to welcome every new member that joins. We could send them an e-mail acknowledging that we have noticed they're a new member. Or we could make someone responsible for those duties. Maybe it can be more than one person. For example, Mondays, member A welcomes new members. Tuesdays, member B can welcome new members, and so on.

I know that the administrators don't do that already, because when I signed-up, no one was there to welcome me. It's like I had to learn the ropes on my own. We could also take turns showing new members the ropes if they wish, and ask them also how they found out about the website. We need this statistical information to help make our website more improved.:)

Sorry I missed it. I usually try and welcome newcomers when I notice them postingl. Many join but, just enjoying reading our post so I don't always say something. Maybe I should though... Anyway I think you have a great idea but, don't think you can't just welcome someone. Feel free to welcome new members.

I also made a thread asking how they heard about EPO and there was maybe 10 more or less members that answered. I do agree it would be helpful to find out though...Thanks for the interest Joey and WELCOME :)
