That a new mini-mall catering to hunters will be opening in Brackettville on highway 90. It's supposed to have several little stores in it, and a deer processing center. I can't imagine what it will be like, but supposedly the guy who just bought the property that it's to be built on told the owner of a local store (the store next to the property he bought) that he was going to do this and she told a friend of mine who told me. So, it's not exactly on the highest authority.

If it's true, I wonder how a business that sounds that expensive to set up will survive in our small town. And how many "little stores" can this place have? Sounds kind of weird. And it sounds risky, but I hope the guy makes it work!

The thing about a business like that is that it will thrive more on passers by than on the local Bracketville population. There are a lot of hunters and fishermen that drive down 90 to reach their hunting leases and/or go to lake amistad. These are the poeple that will keep that store in business. That will be good for Bracketville...............

I'm hoping that is the case. Although the lake is still another 35 or 40 miles past Brackett, so I'm not sure fishermen and boaters will take much interest in the store, not with the Super Wal-Mart being so conveniently located on the way to Amistad. A concern I have is that, last I heard, there is a plan to re-route hwy 90 traffic north of Brackettville. I don't worry for the town since we don't get a lot of hwy business anyway-except for the convenience stores. But a business like that? We'll see, I suppose.

I few months ago, I went down town to pay a parking ticket. A few men in front of me were getting a hunters lic to hunt in Mexico. I ask them if they could do that and they said yes. they mention the place, but I don't remember the name.. After walking to my car, I had to think for a while, i thought you are not allow to bring meat to USA from Mexico. I wonder if they just hunt for the fun. Do hunters allow to take their own rifles across to Mexico? I saw them driving a truck with all these rifles on a rack. this is good to know. My daughter and her husband are fisherpersons, they like to go to fishing competiton they carry all their gear everywhere, so is finshing/hunting follow the same rules?

I'm not afraid of snakes, just bugs of every shape and size.

Like you, I prefer my meat the way God intended, on a little styrofoam tray covered in saran wrap.

I told Flaco about your fear of bugs of every shape and size and he said I had found a kindred spirit. He just can't understand how a person can have no problem with snakes and then run from junebugs!

It could be set up as a seasonal business and if the property is owned outright, then it could definitely work. I think it would work because even though the town is small, there is a lot of charm to it. That alone attracts people.

Tell Flaco that, if he had eyes, he'd see that snakes were entirely different from bugs. For one, they don't have scratchy, scary, creepy, alien underbellies with disgusting legs sticking out from underneatht them. Also, snakes are just one long muscle with eyes and a stomach whereas bugs are crunchy, walking skeletons full of disgusting bug juice. And they have mandibles! Erg! AND, many snakes munch on bugs making them highly superior to said bugs.

Charm? Brackettville? Hmmm....

Hey! I heard last night that Billy Zane, BILLY FREAKING ZANE, will be here to film a movie in just a few weeks. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That will certainly charm up the place.

I heard from a woman today that the business that is opening probably won't have deer processing, just deer storage, and that after talking to the new owner she doesn't think they're going to do as big a production as the other woman thought. Who knows?

LOL! Way too loud! Your bug description is absolutely hilarious. Years and years ago when he first moved to Texas he woke me up at 3:00 a.m. to tell me there was a snake in the bathtub. He was freaking out! Do you know how small that snake was? I just looked at him and went back to sleep.

My hubby isn't afraid of anything, unfortunately. I'd have jumped at the chance to rescue him from something besides his inability to find a matching pair of clean socks on top of the dryer. Hubby has to rescue me from spiders, cockroaches (dead or alive), and from anything dead we find in the yard. It's surprising the dead things one finds in one's yard.

And you KNOW Billy is HOT! Whew! Who says bald isn't sexy. Wow!

The little one rescued me from one of the giant roaches when she was about six years old! I was so scared I couldn't move and she beat the thing with a broom! I left it there and Flaco had to come and move it. I hate those things!

Yes, he is just gorgeous! When do you get to meet him? Le pant! Le pant!

I will avoid meeting this particular sex symbol, I think. Nothing quite so demoralizing as meeting a smokin' hot celebrity when you are, um, not looking your fittest. Hubby went down and had his picture take by the casting directors though, in case they decided they'd like to use him as an extra.

When I was a little girl I wasn't afraid of bugs. Then I got older and somehow they suddenly became the most frightening things. Ick! When we first moved back into the house we're in now vinegarones kept getting in. I kept finding them in my shoes--never his shoes. They were walking around the house at night and, well, I NEVER go barefoot anymore. Who knew I could yell so loud or move so fast?

If they have another name, I've never heard it. We have these beasties all over town though. Come to think of it, when I lived in Eagle Pass I don't remember ever seeing these critters. But surely they exist there and in parts north. When they get angry they smell like vinegar. And they make a DISGUSTING crunch when you step on them in your flip flops in the middle of the night. Shudder.

TO ALL TEACHERS, THIS IS WHAT IS GOING ON, PLEASE INVESTIATE AT YOUR SCHOOL WE RECEIVE THIS TODAY.

ATTENTION: Act now to Avoid Additional Tax Liability

Dear Full-time Faculty Member,

Life just got a little more complicated thanks to the IRS, but we have some options.

The Internal Revenue Service has implemented new tax regulations regarding annualized compensation. This new regulation states that annualized compensation such as paying a 9 month instructor over 12 months may be subject to an additional 20% tax.

The rules state that an employee does not have to pay the tax if he or she makes a written election to annualize compensation before the first duty day of the new school year – for us that date is August 20.

If you wish to be paid over 12 months and want to avoid the new 20% tax rate for deferred income, you must complete the election form and submit it to Payroll before August 20.

The form to use is attached and can also be found in the Fiscal Affairs’ website
http://www.accd.edu/district/fiscalaf/fiscalaffairs.html
2) Click on FORMS 3) Scroll down to Required Annual Payroll Schedule Election.

Prior elections are not valid; you must complete a new form ANNUALLY prior to your first duty day. Mail the form to ACCD Payroll Office at 811 W. Houston Street; San Antonio, Texas 78207 to be received prior to August 20 or deliver it to Room 210 at 8ll W. Houston Street. Please send or deliver the form directly to Payroll. Do not deliver it to someone at your campus.

If you do not complete the election form or of it is not received by August 20, Payroll will set up your pay over the contract stipulated period (e.g., 9 months) in order to avoid your being subject to the 20% tax rate.

Your election is irrevocable and must be done annually.

Sincerely,

Celso Guzman
Associate Vice Chancellor for Employee Services
