In the local new last night, talk was about the Amistad Flood Contingency Plan. Apparently sink holes (or leaks) are developing below the lake (due to the large amount of water) which might cause a major flood downstream. Head for the Hills.......

Personally, I do not see a threat of Amistad Dam bursting at the seams. I know that the dam was constructed in 1969, and that maybe inspections should be done to it in light of the recent bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I think that the bridge collapse should be a wake up call to every state in the nation that has at least some aging infrastructure. It also shouldn't have to take a disaster of this magnitude to act. I don't know who is in charge of those inspections for Lake Amistad. But just for the record, its been raining a lot this year in the whole state of Texas, and there is a tropical storm system named Erin already dumping heavy rains over central Texas. The current track has it spinning over Lake Amistad and surrounding areas like Del Rio and Eagle Pass and if that happens, the dam will have to release water downstream. The lake itself has a depth from 40 feet to as deep as 200 feet. I don't know when was the last time that the Amistad dam has had to release water downstream because of the Lake nearing capacity. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Its being raining for 8 hrs stright. If it rains up on the hill country direction of Del Rio, yes, that might cause alot of damanges on suround areas including SA. Del Rio might open the dam to let water out and it will flood EP,and what I seen Batesville, coming down picking all town of Uvalde and hiting SA, and all other small towns, going down to Houston and Galvaston.
When they do that EP gets it bad, I know cus my sis and mom live where a creek runs on the back yard and they get flooded up to 3 to 4 ft up inside their houses. It also catches Piedras right by the rio grand. My sister who lives in Del Rio got flooded a few years ago. The San Felipe creek runs on her back yard. Its a very nice park and clear waters. But the flood took most of the houses out. Houses were floating with the people on top of the roofs screeming for help. No warning,no alarm. My sis said he saw the creek over flosting, but she never thought it will reach her house. He said 5 minutes later the water was on her back door, they just manage to get some things and ran out the front door and put the truck on reverse cus the water was coming fast. they mesage to get out the front street and saw all the houses flooding with people screeming for help. Not a good sight and something nobody wants to go through. So if that dam breaks we are in for FIMA. Ya sure,

Yeah its been raining like cats and dogs, people are stranded on the freeways and feeder roads with no where to go. Wonder what it'll be like at rush hour, hopefully the rain will have dissipated some. I'm not fixin to get stranded anywhere so I'm relaxin at home.;)
