I need some suggestions on authors or titles for books for teenagers ages 13 & 14. When I was their age I liked Judy Blume but I think those books are more for girls que no? Any suggestions? They probably wont go for the fantasy type books and they definitely arent reading Harry Potter. Something along the lines of Judy Blume but for males?

In addition to the American Library Association you can also check out Book Crush by Nancy Pearl. She makes some great recommendations. Good luck in your search!

Sherman wins the 2007 National Book Award for Young People's Literature (http://www.nationalbook.org/nba2007_ypl_alexie.html) for The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (http://www.fallsapart.com/truediary.htm).
This is the story about a boy and his culture and the decisions he must make regarding his culture.

That is really an interesting question because I have a teen but a girl. She's such a bookworm that she reads all sorts of stuff1 She just finished a book titled "Abzurda" written by an Argentine girl who was anorexic and bulimic. Then again, she has read all the HP books! She evens recommends books to me" She read "The devil wears Prada" and passed it on to me but I hated it! It reminded me of my ex-boss!

My kid uses the computer to do research for her homework ...and talk to her friends. Much the way I used to spend hours on the phone. It can, however be a dangerous medium. We are on the honor system but it is scary. The other day, she asked me for help because her best friend had made a date with two 16 year olds she met on the internet at the Taxqueña subway station. Then, because my kid would not go she changed it to the nearby mall. So my kid said:"Mom, I don't know what to do. I think this is not a good idea!"
So, we made up a story. I called her friends mom and said that I had been reading my kids messenger transcripts and so on and so on. And that I considered this really unsafe and that my kid was grounded from the messenger for not telling me what they were going to do. Anyway, they didn't go. Aranza, my kid can't use the messenger for a month(that was her idea to make it look real) and her friends think I am a rat but don't know that it was Ara who told me everything.
I guess it could have been alright and maybe the guys really are 16, but that doesn't mean that they are safe. What do you think?

I totally agree and I'm glad my kid told me. We made up the story so her friend would not think Ara ratted her out! Ara said: People think that the persons you meet on the internet are who they say they are but you can be Catherine Zeta-Jones or brad Pitt. It's not real.

I'm glad she decided to come to me because even if she had gotten into trouble with me (which she didn't) she knew she would get into bigger trouble if she went with her friend. Plus she was scared for her friend. I never read her messenger transcripts. So, I'm glad she told me.

Maybe just a little. Flaco really laughed at the cruella thing. He said there were meaner bones in my toes than in your entire body. I'm a tellin' ya'. She put a recording on her cell phone and when I call, her voice pipes up and says "OMG, it's the beast"! Needless to say, I had her change that and confiscated her phone immediately after. Now it rings normally when I call.

I was always very curious and rebelious. My mischief had to do with my curiosity and I think I wore my mom ragged when I was little. Later, I was very rebelious and one day, my mom said: Why are you so rebelious? And I said: Because I'm just like you! (Which was true.) With my eldest I thought I'd gotten off scot free...but noooo! My Ara is very rebelious!

I don't know if I mentioned this book before but I love it and reread it whenever I can: Etica para Amador by fernando saavater. he is a great writer and philosopher and his book is easy to read and very good. I just gave it to my teenager. Then there's "Las Buenas Conciencias" by carlos Fuentes...extremely good book on family secrets and if you like to read plays: Rosalba y los LLavero by Emilio Carballido who just passed away. A truly great Mexican playwright. Most of his plays are funny but make you think about all those little secrets that people hide. "Te Juro Juana que tengo ganas" also by him is hilarious and makes you think. Las batallas en el desierto by José Emilio Pacheco or Morirás Lejos also by him. Now that book like Rayuela by Julio Cortazar, really exercises your mind.
Sorry I didn't think of any American writers. I guess I'm kinda out of touch!

Back in the 80's there was this fotonovela, I think it was either mujer, casos de la Vida Real or Alarma. Anyway, one of the numbers was photographed in a building about two blocks away and it featured one of the Araiza brothers. He was always really nice to the kids who would ask for autographs!
OK Another waaaaaaayyyyyyy back when...do you remember "Leyendas de la Colonia?" I used to sneak them home and read them cover to cover until they became really porn!

I do remember them! I would sneak them and my aunts would get so mad when they found me reading them. My uncle wanted me to read the Atalaya and I ended up sneaking my grandfather's Seleciones. I am sooooooo old. I hire people born in the eighties and can't believe it's even possible they are in their mid-twenties.
