My family and I are movnig to EP on Wed. I am teaching at the 9/10th HS this year and was wondering what I could be doing w/ my family in our new city.
throthrem,
Where are you from? If you are not from the US/MEX border you can go to Mexico, visit and explore. I personally would walk to Mexico, it's an experience. Just take an umbrella and a bottle of water cause it is hot.
There is a small lake, you can have a great picnic. I don't know what the bar-b-Q stands look like so you might want to check it out first. If you have young children and if I'm not mistaken they have park like play areas. There is a casino in the outskirts of Eagle Pass. There is also the Fort Duncan historical section. There are several parks that have been built.
I believe they have a night club too.
They really don't have lots of stuff, you just kind of have to be creative. This is coming from a person who use to live in E.P. and now just comes back to visit family. I usually drive around to see what else has been built because this town is growing.
Congratulations on your new job and good luck.

We are coming from San Antonio and had heard that there probably wasn't much to do there. I guess this will bring us closer together and such. I'm looking forward to exploring the area on both sides of the boarder. Thank you for the advice.
I forgot to mention there is a mall small but, it's big enough for a stroll. There is also a golf course. You might want to ask someone who still lives in EP about it. One thing for sure Eagle Pass will bring any family together.
Oh, maybe the chamber of commerce has a welcome package that can give you ideas. I have been lucky to get one from every town I lived in.

We have settled into our apartment as of last Wednesday and made it to the mall before the weekend was over. Next week, we'll head over to PN and check out some more things. We're enjoying it so far, but yeah...there's not much to do.
Personally, I love it.
:)
I am glad you are enjoying Eagle Pass. Have you been to Mexico before, throthrem?

Amazingly enough, in the eight years I have lived in TX, the first time I had been to Mexico was last weekend. I am looking forward to exploring a bit.
Happy B-Day mena on this 13th day of august from all your family down here in beautiful Eagle pass hehehe
I was just asking if you've been to Mexico before cause I just wanted to warn you about giving change to kids. Mexico as every one knows is very poor and children work from a young age, others learn to beg for money. If you decide to give out money don't be surprised to be surrounded by alot of kids asking for some too.
BTW. welcome to EP Throthrem! Hope you Enjoy, from what I read you and your family are from SanAntonio, I lived there a few times throughout my life time, I do enjoy SA for all the different things to do, each time i returned to EP, seemed like I was bored outta my wits! But fortunately, Im getting use to it again, not sure for how much longer tho...
Enjoy the Small City while ur stay... It could be a lot less stressing!

Whoa...I had forgotten I started this topic. So far, I have enjoyed my first couple of months in the "frontier". I have only been over the border twice and to Del Rio once, but we have been so busy that there has not been much time. I admit that we have gone back to San Antonio every chance we got. I miss artsy films, but I would not mind it all that much if my DVD played had not become a repository for my daughters' PB&J's. I love going over to the "pond" and watching the kids play on the swings. And sitting on my patio being able to actually see the stars is a joy. Overall, I have rated EP on the plus side.
But I really miss sushi.
I am glad to hear you are enjoying EP. Don't feel guilty about visiting SA every chance you get cause we all get those withdrawal symptoms too.
