rene,
my hair is dead!!! i need a treatment for moisturizing it. can u suggest something. PLEASE. thnx

p/s i also have the frizzies so when its humid i get the fro look. how about straightening serums?

Rene
10-26-2003, 09:29 PM
For the Frizziness I do recommend the smoothing serum from Artec's Textureline, It works great on frizziness, and to tell u the truth, It does help the hair not feel so much DEAD...

Btw, why is ur hair dead? I mean what did u do to it? Bleach? Perms? Tints? Too much sun?

Also for the curls, if u want to straighten it permanently, you can come buy AbFab and have Alex look it over. So he can examine it in person and maybe give you a good price. The product he uses for it really dont damage hair that much as other leading products...

For free consultation, give him a call at 773-0364. I hope that helps some... Before spending any money, find out what you may want, whether its the Permanent straightenning or just want to make ur hair look healthy. If by any chance, the prices of these products seem to expensive... ( i know they are over 10.00) you can try Pantene (green trimming) for slick/smooth. It does help the hair.

LOL.. hiya Al!... how are u? U can go and get ya self Rogaine or that other one that stops hair from falling off, but not sure it regrows it after a long while. Then again, their excuse is, It works on some men, and some men no....

Then you could go with Bosley Medical... they do hair implants using ur own hair... Grows too... so its not like hair plugs...

Then again, u have a final choice... Hair Pieces... but dont look that natural....

I hear folicure is also good for thinning hair... But dont have the need for it.. so I dont know off hand base...

Rene in the gray box with the english description perform is misspelled.

Are the prices in pesos or $?

Gray box needs to be worked on a little bit more. ;) It has the right concept, but it needs a little bit more work.

Rene
11-10-2003, 11:15 PM
Ah thank you for the suggestion hun.... and its in Pesos... would be too much if it was in Dollars... I know there are some stylist in piedras that will charge up to 100.00 or more on highlights and stuff, and say it comes from italy and paris... looking for an excuse to charge more... But honestly, Mexico is making alot of products now starting at 22.00 pesos... and its says its made in italy. Dont wanna say its False Advertising, but its what it sounds like. I really think its rediculous.. some of those prices are totally off guard! Please becareful, and know what you get into... Just advice...

I was going to suggest the pesos and dollars too. Up here it is common to have those prices at the high end salons.

Rene
11-10-2003, 11:30 PM
Very true mena.. but its self explanatory, it all depends, where ur located at.. how much rent, utilities, taxes and so forth... and how much the products costs, its plain Cost Management... And I dont blame them.... by the end of the month, its barely enuff to pay salaries, and some roll over for next months stock... its a pain in the butt.

I think i need to edit that prices part, and make sure it says PESOS... i had a few people ask.. just figured since its in Piedras, People would automatically assume it was in Pesos... Sorry for the misunderstanding...

:D TOP HAIRCOLORING MISTAKES

<span style='color:orange'>1. Too much change too soon can just be too much. Instead, choose a color within two shades of your natural color--whether you're going lighter or darker. Beginners should start with Temporary colors, such as Natural Instincts (Clairol), Later, you can try a permanent color.

2. READ instructions! Each coloring kit is different. Always read what's in the box. It'll tell you exactly how long that particular formula needs to stay on your hair. Dont under do it.. and dont over do it...

3. Trying to use a champange blonde on jet black hair won't give you the sunkissed look. When choosing a shade, remember that your edn look is a combination of your base shade (color you have now) and the box shade. This will answer the most common question... Why doesnt my hair color look like on the box?

Rene,

What can you say about Men's Hair?

What type of styles are in this summer. I hope nothing too long since it sure is hot in South West Texas.

If you do know about mens hair what cut would you suggest for me. For instance my hair is thick and grows back fast. I have to get a hair cut every month or so. Yet I have not gotten a hair cut in about 6 weeks and is looking long and thick and it's just all over the place. My hair type is wavy to straight.

Hope you can post back by this weekend. Or I might just end up getting a Army cut since it is so hot these past few weeks.

MENA, You welcome about the tips.. you know me, always trying to help and lend my expertise as a stylist! And I cant beleive that you have never dyed your hair... Its great to have virgin hair!

RAMON, most people think for men, dying their hair is a sin, but for them I say, wake up, we are in the new millenium, everything is in now a days!... The thought of just doing something different or changing something simply means you have style and a certain uniqueness about yourself... Its eye catching to those who know style. Whether your hair was dyed red, blue, or even natural colors... If you miss it, you can always try doing it again, if possible, start out with no more than two or shades above your natural color so you can get use to it again... Try the commercial tints... Clairol, Revlon, L Oreal FERIA (my favorite)... For dark colors, I do recommend L Oreal Feria, deep brown, is an ash color to avoid reddish tones. Is a nice change from black... The shine is amazing.

EAGLETX21, I am not sure how interested you are into your hair, but for the summer, a few highlights, sunkissed for subtle changes on men, and for the cut, not to long, not to short, maybe a short shaggy, 70's relax cut for men with point cutting to rid of the thickness volume yet keeping it long enough to be manageable..., use WAX or Paste for hair to shape it... give it that casual cool look. For men also, I do recommend highlighted tips using a painters brush or a regular brush when applying highlighting mixture. What do I recommend for the lightenning of tips, Frosted Tips at your local Walmart or Kmart. And a tip for MEN, you dont have to use the whole mixture, mix just enough for what is needed. The rest you can save for touch ups.. just make sure the product is well taken care of, the liquids tighten, the powder air free, use ziplock bags.

Any more questions, dont hesitate to ask... either here or email...

Good luck guys!

Rene

As for hair... Hair grows from 1cm to half an inch a month... To keep the same style whether on the cut or color touch ups... Be sure you get that done within a month...

for highlights, the touch ups could be two months for the next touch up... Altho that doesnt mean it cant be sooner... But a great tip for those going on the third touch up... its suggested to color over all, and restart the highlights.

Rene,

Thanks for the Advice. The reason I ask is because I have had the same style for some time already I would say about a year with the same cut. And I cut my hair short with a fad. Yet the past couple of months I let it grow long to the point I can't stand it. The reason I do that is because I don't like my hair to be too short and I don't like it to be too long. And every time I get my hair cut I really don't like it until after 2 weeks have gone by and you can notice my hair is growing I tend to like it at that point. Then it gets too long and once again I need to get another haircut a short one. I really don't know what to ask for in touch ups. And I have tried doing touch ups my self. And I screw up a lot. And then I have no choice but to go get it cut short.

As for color in my hair I have never colored my hair. My mom says if I start to color my hair at my age. That when I get older it will start to fall out and I will damage it and stuff. I don't believe her she colors her hair all the time and her hair is still looking great.

I wont post my age but to give you a better understanding of my age I am old enough to vote but not old enough to drink. So is any of this true or just some bad myth my mom heard about?

Rene
06-17-2004, 12:28 PM
Your mom will prolly end up hating me... But from a Stylist to a Client... (even tho I havent worked on ur hair, I consider you a client for the advice asked and suggestions), You coloring your hair has nothing to do with hair falling out...

Let me tell you a little about balding:

Scientist believe that approximately 95% of the hair loss seen in men and women is caused by a progressive condition called ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA or commonly known as hereditary hair loss. Which simply means, most baldness comes from hereditary.

Other types of hair loss is Alopecia Areata when there is a sudden loss of hair in round or irregular patches, this type occurs in individuals who have no obvious skin disorders or serious disease. It is often attributed to stress. It is reversable in a few months.

There is Telogen Effluvium which is premature shedding of hair, this happens in the resting phase called Telogen phase. This is has various causes, difficult childbirth, shock, drug intake (chemo therapy), fever, etc. This also may happen to women when they stop taking birth-control pills or if they follow a crash diet too low in protein. This is also reversable once the condition is resolved.

Only way hairloss can occur on both men and women is when there is an excessive chemical services on hair meaning TONS and TONS of strong chemicals such is Perms and straighters, constant bleaching.

If you know a little about hair and skin anatomy... the Papilla will sound familiar to you, if not let me tell you the papilla is a small, cone shaped elevation located at the bottom of the hair follicle.... it fits into the hair bulb. With in the hair papilla is a rich blood and nerve supply that contributes to the growth and regeneration of the hair. It is through the papilla that nourishment reaches the hair bulb. As long as the papilla is healthy and well nourished, it produces hair cells that enable new hair to grow.

So again, you coloring your hair, at whatever age to know better, your hair wont fall out. It will fall out if there is excessive harsh chemical treatments. If you care of your grooming you will know that if you dye your hair more than enough at a time it will dry it out or start to be porous. Right there and then you will slow down on chemically treating your hair for a month or two... or until you cut that hair off and start all over. But in the meanwhile, dont you worry about ur hair following with out cause unless its in your genes.

Summer Hair Care Tips

Summer is here and with it come all sorts of fun outdoor things to do. It is also that time of year when we encounter the highest percentage of damaged hair, some of it beyond repair. Here are a few tips that may save you a lot of heartache and money.

1. Stay away from hair lightening products such as Sun In.

Most contain some form of peroxide or metallic crystals and can cause severe damage to your hair, not to mention such undesirable effects such as orange, green, or pink hair. Worse, if the product does contain metallic crystals and you then perm your hair, it may literally turn your hair into mush and wash down the drain.

Although a chelator, (an ingredient in some shampoos), can help remove some of the metals residing on the hair shaft, they are not strong enough to remove metal deposits that have penetrated the shaft. The only chemicals that we know of that will do this are chemicals used in the development of film. These chemicals are highly toxic and we do not recommend that you mess with them.

Bottom line, just let nature do its own thing, or invest in a highlight. In the long run the highlight will be far less expensive than a color correction.

2. Invest in a hair conditioner that contains a sunscreen.

If you can't find one and you are heading out to swim or tan, simply massage some of your sunscreen into your hair, it should wash out.

If you are not going to use a sunscreen because you want a deep tan quickly, try using safflower oil. It provides your hair with much needed fatty acids, and makes a great tanning oil to boot.

3. After a day at the pool, clarify your hair.

A clarifier is a stronger shampoo designed to remove toxins from you hair such as auto emissions and other environmental pollutants, as well as build up from some ingredients in over the counter shampoos such as silicon. A clarifier is too strong to use daily, but once or even twice a week is okay. It should also help remove chlorine from your hair, but if you are at the pool daily you will need to invest in a special shampoo to control chlorine.

Avoid 'green hair' before it begins. Thoroughly wet your hair before you dip in the pool and add a bit of conditioner too. Wash your hair immediately upon exiting the pool, BEFORE YOUR HAIR HAS A CHANCE TO DRY. These precautions alone will go a long way toward dodging the 'swamp look.'

Although not exactly a fashion statement, you can always wear a bathing cap too.

If you already have the 'Greenies' you can look around for a shampoo called 'Malibu 2000.' It may or may not work. You can also try soaking your hair in tomato juice, cap it and let it sit on the hair for about twenty minutes, then rinse, shampoo, rinse, and condition the hair. The red dyes will kill the green tone. Or better yet, get John Frieda's Sheer Blonde shampoo and conditioner for caramel blondes, it brightens them up.

These few tips should see you well through the summer and leave you with fond memories instead of bitter tales.

One more question. The other day I was hanging out with my friends and one of them told me I had two white hairs. I don't know how I didn't see it before I mean I have Jet Black Hair. Well anyways I pulled them out and it hurt. My question is if I pull out the hair with the root will another hair grow back? I am guessing no since the root was pulled out of the scalp thats it no more hair in that spot.

Gloria

Thanks for the tip about the day in the pool. I did notice my hair still feeling real thick after washing with lots of conditioner.

Rene

Gloria, Your welcome... Ill be posting tips every chance I get, I like helping out...

EagleTX21, When you pull out your hair and comes out with root, another will grow in its place. The only way hair wont grow back is when the papilla is destroy, and thats underneath the root. There is a myth, when you pull one grey hair, two more gray hairs will replace it... THAT IS FALSE aswell... But more than likely, where you pulled out your grey hair, another will come out in its place.
