Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had some ideas to offer on how to find a job in EP. I'm from San Francisco, CA and my parents are moving there. My dad is originally from EP but left when he was 10. Now he's over 50 and wants to retire there. Anyway, I'm trying to help them find work in EP by searching online and I can't find much. What's the local newspaper and does it have a website? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow,good question. What kind of work are they/you looking for? You see, Eagle Pass is not on top with the job market. Recently they started building new restaurants, hotels, banks, the casino, HEB grocery and Walmart was expanded, we have the school district, law enforcement agencies. I don't know what else.
The newspaper is the Eagle Pass News Guide and they don't have a website. You can't really rely on the paper for jobs, cause they usually don't have any. I would probably say grab some comfortable shoes and hit the pavement. Oh, have you called the TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION (830) 773-9481. I don't know if that is a current number but, maybe another EPO member would want to verify. Very best of luck.

I think the TWC number is 773-1191, dont think the 9481 is good anymore... If u do call the TWC... ask for MR. LEAL, i think he is the top dude in there, they may ask you to drop in the office to Get a Profile with Job Experiences and stuff, before u can get into the Puter System. I really do wish them luck. God Bless!

How to find a job in EP? Well, that depends on who you know. Sorry to say that this small town has very few (if any) companies/businesses that actually select the best person for the job. Best wishes.

The only other jobs are in truck driving. City, county and school district are the major job or even Customs. The majority of the jobs in EP are political. If you know someone then you might get the job.

If you want a job with the EPISD, ask Rodolfo Lopez he's a school board member. He gave his nephew a job as a custodian without a degree. And he also recently gave a job to some guy with no educ., not even an AA degree as a teacher's aide. And the list goes on. ;)

seems like the 'patron' system in EP is alive and well, as always... <_< -_-

LOL! Yep, aside from a masters degree, you will need a friend or relative that works there, or a good looking sister to get the job. And were talking McDonalds or HEB. In EP, its not what you know, its who you know.

Its funny aint it?

After I finished my school and had a few years experience... I came back home to Eagle Pass to struggle finding a job... I went to many places and I was told I was over qualified for many of the positions I had knowledge in...

I have a degree in Business and Accounting... Plus my other certificates and non but one has helped me out in the world of WORK/CAREER in EP...

I applied at one of the LOCAL banks here in EP and I was told I was over qualified... So in order for me to get a regular job I had to lie on my application and just say I finished highschool, PERIOD!... How sad is it really????

Whats more sad is the Preference and discrimination in jobs places today... Management beleives they are gods just because they are management (im talking assistants). But one word to the district manager and off the high horses they go... Just waiting for the right moment!

PEACE

Dont I just sound bitter!???

Well honestly, I am not, its just the unjustice that really PO's me! BTW, I want to give a quick shout out to my many friends, and my two special girlfriends, "Alex and Dylan" who call themselves Charlie's Angels... The red head, the brunette and the blonde.... HIP HIP HOORAY!!!

And also to my Friends Alex from ABFAB hairsalon, Armin and Mark at Wally World, My Colleages in Piedras... and Arriba la mentirosa de CBTIS!

ooooh.... pent-up rage! very nice...

Seriously, you seem to have some vestige of intelligence inside you're head, so I'm wondering what makes you think saying F-this and F-that is going to get you anywhere? That being said, I agree with the basis of your ideas.

Oh, and by the way. It's "mediocrity," buddy... just giving you a head's up ;)

Mena, I think the reason they all say you're overqualified is because then they'd have to pay you what you're worth... Seeing as if they hire someone with less qualifications, they can pay them less also... Correct me if I'm wrong....

*commenting on other posts* I left EP because "supposedly" there wasn't work... but then again.. now I come to realize, there was work.. I just didn't want to work as a Sales Associate@ JCPenny....a waitress@Pizza Hut....working the counter at any other fast food joint oh goodness especially not Sonic!, not to mention the Mini Mart which it was called back in the days... I wanted an office job...and at that time... all I had was a high school diploma...yes there is la politica etc.. but el compadre didn't help me out much when I was looking for a job.... He didn't hire me...and he was a relative..haha...so who knows.. pero si...I was too goood to be working minial jobs...and que humiliacion que me vieran en un trabajo como esos... sad but true....
