Thanks for the invite to introduce myself - My husband and I own and operate a construction company in Minnesota. We have 3 employees who originate from the EP area. We have had the opportunity to visit them in EP in the winters during our "layoff" and will be returning in December for a Quinceanera.

I have also been involved in helping to "solve" employee issues (child support, divorces, garnishments) which has put me in contact with several local agencies and enforcers. Needless to say, it has been an interesting ride! :o

(By the way, I do have an employee who is attempting to collect support from an absent mother. Heard she is employed at Gloria's and La Villa - any assistance in pinning her down would be great!)

Here's the latest -maybe a new topic for the BB - The employee with the absent spouse that Eagle has volunteered to assist with is really worried. It seems she likes to dabble in a little "black magic". He believes that if I search for her too hard, she may choose to "cast a spell" on me. As a God-fearing Christian, I have a hard time believing that this is possible. However, 20/20 (or one of the other news shows) just ran a re-run on voo-doo in the border towns. Can anyone verify that this is a practice in EP? If so, how widely is it used?

I think i know what youre talking about Krissy... I seen that show on A&E, City Profile about Brownsville and Matamoros... About this Lady who's daughter's heart was broken by HS Teen Love. She couldnt stand for it, so she went to a curandera (witch doctor, if im not mistaken) to put a spell on the teen boy. From my understanding, I thing the Mom wanted the boy dead... she told the curandera, and the curandera looked for someone to do the job, not sure if it was 3,000.00 dollars for the job... The they shot the boy. But it wasnt magic, was murder. The mom was sent to jail, then out, not sure what the current status is... but was an interesting show...

As for black magic, I dont know, I am a christian as well, and I do have a friend that frequents those curanderas and always gets the cards thrown (tarrot). From what he has told me, they always guess his life right, but when they tell him to expect in the near future, never happens, least to my knowledge and my talks to him.

Other than that, not sure what all is behind what...

Curanderos. they are called in English- Healers. That is what they try to do, heal people from spells, give spells, clean you from spells, see your future. I hvae gone to see curanderos in Piedras Negras before, used to go with my mother. I remember I stumped my big toe one day just playing football after school with friends around when I was in fifth grade back in the 1970s. My mother took me to see el Nino Fidencio to take care of my toe. Well, he took my toe and I believe stretch it and massaged it. The next day my toe was better. That curandero already has passed away, so my mom saw another lady but that lady passed away last year. There was another one cross the street from that lady who might still be there, its near the Gutierrez Supermarket in PN. I hear witches do exist in Mexico some where they gather, I believe near Espinazo de Diablo town. I am not sure totally. While attending Sul Ross SU in Alpine, I would hear that there were many witches in Presidio, Texas. A old coworker's wife was a curandera near Taylor, Tx. Many people would see her, see passed away already thou.

Web design - I use photoshop, flash, and dreamweaver to create all sorts of web designs.

Martial arts - I currently train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and krav maga.

Drawing - I have been doing pencil art since my childhood, I am now in the process of scanning some of my art and making my own personal website.

I am now 20 and a United States Marine, I graduated from CC Winn in 2002, I took off for the service two days after graduation ceremony. It’s been good, seen lots of places I never even dreamed of seeing, and done just the same amount too, recently earned my AA, and will be going home to E.P. in a couple of weeks, yeah. I play guitar, used to play in a local punk band and used to be the kid running around town with all sorts of colored hair a couple of years ago. Well it’s been getting better since I just got back less that two months ago, I was gone for about seven months and the worst thing about it was not being able to talk or communicate with all the people that you are used too. You have means of communication but not all the time. But everything is treating me good here; I have learned and experienced many things. I believe it is a good stepping stone toward my future and it will help me in the long run.

Well, from my own hiring time, I would say no. I didn't know a single person and I was hired right off the bat, in fact the principal at the time (Mrs. Contreras) waited for me to hear about another job offer first and gave me time to see if that other one worked out. Certified personel are at a low in this area. If you are certified and have all of your credentials, I would say there is a good chance of a job if the opening is there (math, sciences, and special ed especially).

I don't play games with folks and do my job. When I need something to make my classes work easier, the folks worked to find a way to get it for me. I am impressed with that as the other schools I worked with before this one were not so open armed to embrace new ideas and teaching strategies.

That was five years ago. I am not into politics and refuse to get into gossip on my campus. I am there to teach, and to make the student's lessons worth learning. There is a lot of red tape that we must go through to get the job done. But that is from the state, not much can be done about that.

If you are fully certified with good recommendations (which any business would request including a school, after all you don't want an axe murderer to work for you), and if there is an opening there should be no problem unless there is someone better suited for the job (i.e. more experienced in that position).

I doubt that answers your question, but again, I don't get into the local gossip that might hurt my opinion of those I work with. I base my opinions on personal contact and experience not word of mouth. I find most here at my campus are wonderful people (with a few exceptions of course) that want to teach and help these kids into a bright future. Even those that are not energetic and whole heartedly meant to teach want the best for the kids and will do what they can to make the year a success.

I'm a College student taking too many hours but I can handle the pressure. I actually kind of like the pressure of having to study for several Exams all in one week. That's pretty much my life right now College.

I don't watch T.V. just a show here and there. I enjoy reading, drawing, painting, taking pics with my 1980 era SLR camera and my Digital Camera. Taking care of my Dog which can be so funny at times then annoying. And spending time with my Family. :cool:

It is my favorite section of the Reader's Digest! That would be the coolest job to have. When I was in Junior High I used to create the word search puzzles that were in the school "newspaper" and it really was a lot of fun. Yikes! I sound like such a geek. Oh well, old habits die hard.:o

That's not a bad idea. I have actually been to Forum just like this one that doesn't allow people from viewing threads without being registered and logged in. That's should get people to register and hopefully since they are already logged in it can get them to post. :)

Some people might say doing that will discourage people from coming onto the site. Yet, the EPOnline Forum has nothing to lose since no one new is posting meaning the regulars are the only members posting new topics and adding post to existing threads.

Yes it is. The dude in the turkey baster was Native American/Scottish, and I'm 6 shades lighter. People ask if she's really mine sometimes. They shut up when they see a picture of me a that age. The only difference is the tan. She discovered swimming 6 years ago and hasn't stopped since. Thank you, just make sure you never tell her. BTW....hubby has a FULL head of hair. Right now I tell him he looks like Leif Garrett or Farrah Fawcett, depending on the mood I'm in.:D

I guess I need a haircut also. I look like a buffalo. I don't think my hair has been this long since 1976. Actually it doesn't get long, it grows up and to the sides. I'm growing a fro.

What with this men and not getting a hair cut. My son half Purto Rrican and half hispanic decided to let his hair grow cause he wanted to get it braid. I was after him day and night, he was looking like Buckwheat from the Little Rascals also his hair turn into an afro or a matted hair from an old buffalo. He try to grease it down and his face will break out. I will lose all of my hairbrushes will find them In his car or at his bathroom. Good thing I kept my dog clipers and I was ready to use them the next time I see him.:D With my luck, when he show up he had no hair it was shave off "AMEN" :rolleyes:
