My family and I are planning a visit to Eagle Pass in December for a Quinceanera. We hope to do some site seeing around the town of Guerrero. Do we need a travel pass from the Mexican Consulate? If so, is the office open regularly?
Any info would be greatly appreciated! :)

No you don't. Guerrero is located 26 miles south of Eagle Pass on the Mexican side of the Rio Grand. The only time you would need a visa/permit is when visiting areas outside the border region.
Hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the info!
How about car insurance? I just want to make sure we don't have any trouble getting back into the US.
Last year, the US border patrol officer scared my son and he became "speechless". Instead of replying "yes", he was saying "ya". They wouldn't let us through until he said "yes sir Mr. border patrol officer". Needless to say, he was in tears. Things just aren't that tough here in Minnesota!

If your planning to use a rental car to visit Mexico, make sure you let the rental company know. You may need to purchase additional insurance to cover your trip into Mexico. If the rental company doesnt offer that insurance you can get it here. Most of the insurance companies here in EP will sell you the insurance for a day, week or month depending on ur stay in Mexico.
You dont need insurance to come back to the USA, its just good to have when visiting over there.
As far as the Border Patrols and other agents at the US port of entry, well theres some A-holes out there who think their GOD. We've all run into one of them at one time or another. Its too bad your son had to go through that experience though.
Hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks again, BC!
Krissy, anytime you come across someone that is rude, ask for his/her name, supervisors name and report them, it all goes in their file. No one has to put up with B.S. from anyone no matter what they do for a living.

I go to Piedras practically everyday, unless im tired or off... but I havent had any trouble with them... Well the most trouble Ive had was.. Why my visit to Mex. who's Car, where are you going, etc. But as far as that crap about "yes sir, Mr. Border Patrol my A.s.s Sir!" Hello no! I dont know what gives them the Idea they have the power to humilate anyone like that! That really sux. But you know, thanks to Mena, I will be looking at badges, and asking for names!
I have given people a piece of my mind when I am not treated right but, I have also learned to compliment people when they do a good job.
Hey Krissy, how did the quincenera go?

It was really nice and a great cultural experience! My husband was sick for 3 straight days, so he was unable to attend. He spent a lot of time at the hotel in front of the TV. Anyways, I just sat and watched all the dancing and met about 300 of her relatives. Most didn't speak english, so it was a little quiet on my end of the table. I was surprised at the number of cops outside at the end of the night!
As an added note, we did travel to Guerrero - didn't have any problems at all. My previous experience must have been due to the particular border agent. We had a great road-trip that day and I fell in love with the quaint little town. I've been bugging my husband about building a "vacation home" there. :P

When we got back from TX, we had a cold snap - HIGHS of 2˚ BELOW zero! The past few days have been nice, though (mid 30s). BTW, Blue, I hear you were in San Antonio for New Years - any chance you were on the Riverwalk? That happens to be where we spent our New Years after spending the day in Luckenbach! (I know this will only make sense if you are familiar with the song)
I'm glad to hear you had a better experience this time around.
About meeting her family ha,ha..I don't know all the names to my relatives (too many) in Eagle Pass, not to mention the ones that don't live there.
Are the roads to Monterrey any good, or too rough to drive?

The Expressway to Monterrey is as good or better than our local Expressway. The only diffrence to use them you have to pay a toll.

I'm going to have the pics put on a disk to make it easier to post. I took a whole roll of the cemetery. I have never seen such a colorful cemetery - it was beautiful. And yes, the park is amazing. I was there in December, so the pool was drained. I understand they fill it in the warmer months.
:)Yea they do fill up the pool in the summer .... i think it's a natural spring or something like that..
