Do you think the Maquinitas are bad or good for the community? I think they are bad for the people. The majority of the people who go are poor and they wind up blowing up the few bucks they have at the Maquinitas. They should instead use the money to support legitimate buisnesses in the community. And of course the elected a*** Ricardo *** is too coward to go after the maquinitas.

They are all adults and know what they are doing with their money. And what kind of legitimate businesses are you talking about??? What EP needs is some type of entertainment, for adults as well as for the kids.

I agree on both counts.

Maybe a petting zoo for kids, nature center, a larger museum that covers science, history etc..., a nice minuature golf course,

Didn't they outlaw maquinitas a while back? I remember hearing something like that on the news but I don't remember if it was the news from San Antonio or the news from here.

maquinitas are illegal but from what i understand it has basically been left up to the state to enforce the law so slowly but surely they are being shut down by the rangers. san antonios maquinitas are already closed but they are still all over the valley and here and other parts of the state. i personally believe people should be able to spend there money any way they want to. my only problem with the maquinitas is that they are an eye sore and there is just something sort of tacky and sleazy about them.

I agree I have been away from EP for 11 years and it's awful when you drive via Del Rio Hwy and see the Maquinitas. They are an eye sore and I hope they get rid of them soon.

The are terrible. They sure r tacky and an eyesore. I think that the state laws on these machines allow the counties to make up there own damn mind about them. So it's possible that if you have members in local govt who benefit from these minimal money making operations, its probably legal in that county. So you hear them being shut down in some places, while open in others.

They are pretty bothersome, but at the same time I find them funny. They are supposed to provide entertainment for adults, but it's more like for little kids. Example: their signs always say something like "Fridays are Pizza Nights plus a raffle for a bicycle". Strange.
