I am attending a quinceanera on December 29th in Eagle Pass. I am the girl's "sponsor" (whatever that means). What should I wear to such an event, never having attended one before?

semi-formal attire will do. a nice dress. i dont think pants will be too appropriate for the event.

p/s im still investigating the pending for you.

The official name for a sponsor in an event such as this is "Padrino" for male and Madrina for female. In translation, it means Godfather/Godmother. I know it doesnt make sense but thats the way it is in our culture.
Gee, being a male, I have no idea what you should wear. But, I think it all depends on how formal the event is. Some parents throw Quinceanera events that out shine weddings, so it might be a good idea to get more info.

I heard discussion among our employees from that area about tuxedos for guys, so I was sort of assuming that women followed suit. I have some formal dresses, some with spaghetti straps, some more "matronly" with long sleeves. I just don't want to look trashy or too conservative.

Like BC said, it depends how formal the event is. I have seen formal and semi-formal attire worn to such events. And like eagle said, pants wouldn't really go.

o yea,, those quinceañeras can be pretty costly, thats why the parents get sponsors/padrinos for EVERYTHING including underwear padrinos.. lol as funny as it sounds its the troof. as far as the attire goes,, just wear something formal , whether it be formal formal or semi. just as long as ur comfortable. spaghetti straps would do the job.

hey bluey,, ready for some longnecks? check out the specials at sunset B)

:D BTW - found a dress in Minneapolis over the weekend! I look very matronly, but respectful, I think. Now, to find a stylist . . . hmmm . . . . you busy on the 27th, Rene?

Thanks to everyone at EP Online for your help and advice! :)

I think I would have a much better chance at finding the salon in EP, but I understand if you are busy. It pays the bills, right?! :) As for style, I'm clueless. I have long, but layered, straight hair that tends to be a real pain to work with. Do you have any suggestions?

Well hun... if u wanna come to the salon here in EP... call to set an APT at 830 773-0364, the receptionist name is Gloria... and you can speak with Alex... its only by Apt... Do you know where las Brisas are at?... Off on el Indio Hwy, coming south, take a right on Memo Robinson, first street to the left turn...(trying to think of the name of the street! lol) about a block and a half, before u get to the intersection... should be on the Right... AbFab Hair Salon... across the street from the cornerstore.
