I have been invited to a fancy Christmas party and told to bring a $10 White Elephant Gift. I assume this means a non person or gender specific gift.
Am I right on here or should I bring something from the Zoo that may get me arrested?

i would strongly suggest u take something from the zoo.
well.. i called my mom and asked her,, shes in the lions club so they have those white elephant things all the time.. she said,, that people usually take something that they have at home.. for example.. a punch bowl that they gave u 2 yrs ago and its still new and in the box..or an in expensive gift. and what they do is that they either auction it off or just exchange the gifts with others.

I uderstand a white elephant gift as something akin to that, but it also falls slightly into the realm of a gag gift. Last year we gave away a copy of "Pumping Iron" to a relative who was joining the military.

OK then it's settled, I will bring a small gray elephant (stuffed) and spray it white with a .79 can of spray paint from Walmart.
:D
Funny stuff!... actually its the first time I ever heard that White Elephant thing, other than the Club/Bar ages ago in Piedras...
