Should this drug be legally available to the sick. Of all the herbs in the world we use to help the sick, this one is a no-no,probably because some politicians are anal and have reefer maddness and think it turns you into a monster.

When my mother was ill with cancer and had zero appetite and a chronic upset stomach, they gave her Marinol. Only one pharmacy in SA would even sell it, Wal-Mart and HEB refused to carry it. Marinol is a synthetic marijuana, I believe. Although, I could be wrong, perhaps it's made directly from marijuana. Anyway, Mom was a total hippie and always felt marijuana should be legalized. She didn't smoke a lot, but she did smoke. When she started on the Marinol I asked if it was the same kind of high, and she said it was to her. It got her eating again and eliminatedher nasuea. I was so glad she had it. Nothing else on the market offered the same benefits.

But I think anytime we breathe in smoke, we are damaging our lungs. I'd like to see marijuana in pill form, liquid form, tea, whatever.......it could have incredible medical benefits. But smoking it? Hmmm, I just don't see how smoking marijuana can be good for the lungs, despite any health benefits it provides. I mean, you can tell a pot smoker by the way they talk! It affects their lungs, their throat, and who knows what all? Not to mention what pesticicdes and such are used on the marijuana crops. If someone is smoking pot off the streets, God knows what they are inhaling.

I think the only reason marijuana isn't being used medically is because it's cheap to grow, cheap to proces, and the pharmaceutical companies can't make as much money on it. I'd be willing to bet they lobby against legalization.

When I think, though, of how many other uses there are for hemp, I'm amazed. You'd think they'd figure out a way to grow THC-free or low-THC hemp so it could be used for paper, clothing, eating (the seeds and the seed oil), all without upsetting anybody. How hard would that be in this day and age of genetically engineered crops?

Just my thoughts.
